Everyday we try to use our voices to explain that the US government doesn’t give a fuck about anyone in the Global South. CIA this CIA that not even knowing that there is 18 intelligence agencies. Obviously the CIA is the most powerful one and is directly under the control of the executive, and will be the one doing the regime change and the sabotage. All of these things like the CIA supporting terrorism for geopolitical goals is publicly available declassified information but we are all getting labeled as conspiracy theorists. The INR has an Office of Analysis for Africa and their only job is to make sure American influence is #1, the country remains a resource colony, and that nothing threatens American economic or geopolitical interests on the continent. They study our governments, our economies, our natural resources, our relationships with China and Russia, political instability, elections and anything else that could affect American influence. All 18 intelligence agencies have people studying foreign economies, critical minerals, supply chains, energy, sanctions, trade and investment. They know exactly which countries have the resources America needs and exactly what happens when those countries decide they want more control over them. So when Africans are told that American foreign policy is about “democracy” and “human rights,” understand that there is an entire national security apparatus looking at Africa through the lens of American interests. They are not studying Senegal, Congo, Nigeria or Guinea because they are concerned about whether our people have electricity, hospitals or jobs. They are studying what we have, who controls it, who is gaining influence and whether any political or economic shift threatens American access and power. This is why understanding imperialism requires more than repeating like parrots over and over “is it the CIA that made us do XYZ”. The CIA is one piece of a much larger machine. Economic pressure, sanctions, diplomacy, intelligence gathering, military cooperation, NGOs, development institutions and multinational corporations can all intersect with the same broader objective: maintaining American power and protecting American interests. Too many people do not have the same standard of living as Americans but everyday on this app parrot the same foreign policy talking points of being anti-Russia, anti-China, and Pro USA. Nobody is coming to save the Global South. We have to understand how the system actually works before we can ever build something independent of it.
