🚨 Brazil’s Presidential Election Rules Just Changed Mid-Vote
A single justice of Brazil’s Supreme Court has ordered the nationwide extension of voting until 7 PM today two hours past the original 5 PM closing time.
The decision came from Minister Cristiano Zanin, Lula’s former personal lawyer, after the president’s campaign filed an urgent constitutional complaint citing reduced public bus service in a few cities in Bahia. Zanin applied the extension to every polling station in the country.
The request reached the court at 4:32 PM. The ruling was issued as the original deadline approached. Brazil’s electoral court (TSE) has been ordered to implement it immediately.
Flávio Bolsonaro’s campaign had also requested limited extensions in specific municipalities affected by heavy rain, but those stayed with the electoral authorities. Only the PT petition produced a national order from the Supreme Court
This is an unprecedented last-minute judicial rewrite of election rules while voting is still underway.
The world is watching.
