It might not be politically correct to say, but I think it's time we started asking whether the contemporary right is capable of assimilating into American culture.

From The Atlantic's profile of Licht comes this gem, one screamed at us by pundits and media executives since the Tea Party uprising of 2009. It seems impossible to explain to them that we heard all these views a million times and simply do not like them. Yes. As a country. 🧵

Let's take a moment to talk about this.
There is a full-throated purge effort going on here by the far-right that we have not seen for decades.
They are on a boycott binge and cancel crusade, trying to eliminate the existence of minority communities.
Burning Flags. Banning Books. We have seen this before.
And it’s happening everywhere, all across the country.
Woke has become just another a dog whistle.
We must continue to call out hate when we see it, as they keep trying to normalize it. If we go silent, this will only get worse. We cannot become numb to this. dailynews.com/2023/05/30/fla…

This is what white supremacist erasure of Black culture looks like in Fascist Florida. My book LOVE TO LANGSTON banned on the grounds of “Critical Race Theory” and “Indoctrination” by dumbest elements of our society. We have to be diligent in fighting for our children’s minds!

There was a shoplifting ring in my hometown who was known for dropping huge sums of money on designer clothes.
Everyone in town knew who they were, but they NEVER got caught.
Some high end stores would even let them shop freely, KNOWING they were thieves
Why?

Law enforcement conduct is unimpeachable on the right as long as any actions or abuses are confined to those not considered Real Americans. But when applied to those they see as above or exempt from the law, such conduct is inherently illegitimate no matter the context.

The previous FBI director intervened on Trump’s behalf in violation of DoJ guidelines, but then got fired by Trump because he didn’t answer Trump’s implicit “you’re gonna let me do crimes, right?“ question to Trump’s satisfaction. The current director was appointed by Trump.

Replying to @tedcruz
The FBI director was personally appointed by Trump and is a registered Republican.

imho it was probably a mistake for Democratic elites to characterize the GOP as a party temporarily brain-broken by Trump that could become reasonable again and not as a party that's fully committed to a well-funded 50-year plan to reverse major civil rights gains

The radical new Texas GOP platform floats secession. That's insane, but don't miss this part: It also comes out for repeal of the Voting Rights Act. Time to ask Texas Republicans whether they think a revival of literacy tests is in order:
