What a ride covering baseball at Muni. Some of the best games I’ve ever seen, full of jaw-dropping moments, all right here. No better place to cover the best sport out there. Wouldn’t trade this seat for anything. Still plenty of baseball left to go! @DevilsDigest

Some of these Caminero ABs are giving me Vladdy flashbacks from last season and Soto flashbacks from the year before. Just unbelievably locked in, fouling off anything close and laying off nasty pitches. So fun to watch.
Junior Caminero's turn! 2-0 Rays

It’s incredible that there’s a crowd of people who would rather we not get the call right in 2026, with the technology we have available. So many moments throughout baseball history have been tarnished by horrible calls that could’ve been corrected.
I don’t like Instant Replay being used on calls like this! It almost changed the outcome of the game because maybe Cooper Pratt’s foot was off the bag by millimeter. The ball beat Caminero there by plenty. #shegone

For my old friends at @BaseballAmerica, I compiled the sizes of each team’s scouting staff. Note that many teams frequently renowned for their technology and analytics (Dodgers, Rays, Brewers) also have some of the largest scouting staffs in MLB. baseballamerica.com/stories/…

New episode of @LO_Diamondbacks out now! Breaking down Ketel Marte’s trade value, his no-trade clause, why forcing a deal makes little sense for Arizona, reported Red Sox packages in 2025, his 2026 decline, and why he could bounce back in 2027. youtu.be/VAHWBGNlABU?si=bsnT…

Also can’t imagine how crushing it would have been for the Dbacks to give up the three top-30 prospects in the Nootbaar deal plus Crisantes for Holmes and still miss the postseason.
What a weird deadline. The Detmers deal falls apart with the Cubs over medicals, then the Clay Holmes deal with Arizona falls through. Maybeeee Holmes gets AZ to the playoffs, but almost certainly for the best that the Dbacks hold onto Demetrio Crisantes.

Phil's sources say Angels and Mets rejected prospect medicals leading to Cubs acquiring Holmes and Zeferjahn, but not Detmers

Objectively the best World Series matchup we could’ve asked for. Probably the two best run organizations in the sport relative to the resources they have. Glad Tampa’s offense got hot. The pitching on both sides should be unreal. Can’t help but feel Milwaukee takes it in 6.

Glad to see the Diamondbacks trending lower as more updated lists come together… I still suspect some information is missing and the department is bigger than reported, but hopefully AZ has done more with less. Otherwise, not encouraging numbers.
Took a stab at this. See thread for sourcing & explanation of discrepancies. I think only the tails matter: ATH, ARI, ATL, COL are low (not good!). TBR, NYY, NYM, DET, CLE are high (good!). ~8 teams have low visibility into their numbers... 🧵

Would be curious how accurate these numbers are. Feels like there’s never a consensus on headcount. If true, not a great look to be grouped with some of the more dysfunctional organizations in baseball near the bottom. Gotta invest more in your own organization.
Three teams left, and all three have bigger-than-average analytics staffs. Brewers: 46 (2nd in MLB) Rays: 39 Guardians: 30 League average: 28.5 The Phillies have the biggest staff in baseball, and they're already home. Like payroll, it's one input. Everything else combined still matters more.

Another post went semi-viral recently using 2025 data, saying there wasn’t clear info on the Dbacks’ analytics staff size, so it’s hard to know the actual headcount. Hard to imagine they’d be bottom five, but who knows.
