BBC PAID HIM 6X MORE. THE TRIBUNAL SAID THAT WAS ILLEGAL. Samira Ahmed @SamiraAhmedUK presented Newswatch on @BBC for years. Same format. Same length. Same job. Read viewer feedback on camera, wrap it up, go home. Jeremy Vine @theJeremyVine did exactly the same thing on Points of View. She got £440 per episode. He got £3,000. Ahmed spent years trying to fix it quietly through internal BBC processes. The BBC said there was no problem. She filed for tribunal. In January 2020, the tribunal ruled unanimously in her favour. The BBC could not explain the difference. They tried. They argued Vine needed "a glint in the eye" and to be "cheeky." The tribunal said that was not a skill. It was a story the BBC told itself. The total underpayment was close to £700,000. Sarah Montague, another BBC woman, settled separately for around £400,000. The National Union of Journalists flagged around 70 more cases waiting resolution internally. After Ahmed won, 700 BBC women received pay rises. The BBC's statement after losing? They regretted it had gone to tribunal. Not that they paid a woman six times less than a man for the same work for years. Just that it became public. Sources: @guardian, @BBC, @IFJGlobal, Others

India said NO to Starlink. Musk thought he could throw a public tantrum and bully India into handing him a telecom monopoly, but he completely miscalculated. Thanks to Trump’s reckless betrayal of global allies and cozying up to dictators, the world is waking up to a terrifying truth: you simply cannot trust America—or its arrogant billionaires—with your national security anymore. Fareed Zakaria: “Elon Musk picked the wrong moment to lecture Indians. Frustrated that Starlink had not been cleared to launch in that country, he accused the government of protecting Mukesh Ambani whose telecom network Jio will launch its own satellite service. Musk cast himself as the champion of ordinary Indians against one of the country's richest men. It backfired. India's government dismissed his accusation as baseless. An influential nationalist group close to the ruling party went further demanding that Starlink be kept out of India altogether citing national security. Media and online reactions were similarly hostile to Starlink. Musk did not understand that in India as in much of the world, trust in America is collapsing. Indians have watched as Donald Trump has discarded 25 years of bipartisan outreach to New Delhi in favor of cozying up to Pakistan and its de facto dictator Field Marshal Asim Munir. They have watched Trump essentially abandon Ukraine, where the military version of Starlink has been suspiciously restricted, thus crippling Ukraine's military response to Russian aggression. Would India define itself in another crisis with Pakistan? Would it want its armed forces to be utterly dependent on a US satellite system controlled by Trump?”

“Wildwood” director Travis Knight calls AI an “amazing piece of technology” but says, “I’m not embracing it at all.” “I see technology as a tool, and we use technology at Laika. A pencil is technology, a paintbrush is technology, a 3D printer is technology. Technology is useful when you put it in the hands of people, when you put it in the hands of artists who can amplify their voice." “Technology is not useful when it takes the place of the artist, and that’s the concern with generative AI,” he continued. “It’s an amazing piece of technology, but the concern is that when it supplants the artist, then we have an issue because the computer cannot speak about humanity at all. It doesn’t know what it feels like.” variety.com/2026/film/column…

Environmental campaigners and the local water company United Utilities have come up with a plan to build a huge sewage tunnel at Lake Windermere coming at a cost of more than £3.6 billion. The plan is not yet approved but there are two proposals to fund the project: either taxpayers or United Utilities customers in the north west pay. Lake Windermere is England’s largest natural lake and a UNESCO World Heritage site but has also been at the epicentre of the arguments over sewage. We spoke with the CEO of United Utilities Louise Beardmore. #News #Channel4News #LakeWindermere #Sewage #UK

Meta’s assertion that it has the right to ingest your website for the purpose of training its AI is outrageous. We have 10 days to put a stop to it.
Impressed that at least the UK is actually moving on this outrageous move by Meta. Baroness Fleet gets it. 10 days. Tick tick tick tick. UK CMA (Competition and Markets Authority): “We wrote them a letter on it… we’re talking tomorrow.”

Kemi Badenoch has blocked The National from attending a press event in Edinburgh today How can this make sense when she called out Reform for doing the same to other reporters? @KemiBadenoch - we have questions we'd genuinely like to ask about your plans for Scotland.
