A new #OpenAccess study by Xuefei Chen and colleagues in #Geology shows that the surface ocean has warmed out of the Little Ice Age. The water at 1345 m has not. A living cold-water coral from the South China Sea (Li/Mg + U-Th) shows intermediate water beneath the Indo-Pacific Warm Pool still in a Little Ice Age cold state — the ocean interior is still far from equilibrium with the surface. doi.org/10.1130/G55025.1

How did seamount collision shape the early Olympic subduction complex? New #GSABulletin research uses sedimentology + detrital zircon geochronology to propose a new model for the Blue Mountain Unit and the Ancestral Cascades forearc system.

ALT Color-coded sketch illustrating the spatial distribution of sedimentary and volcanic lithofacies on a seamount with a large volcaniclastic slope apron approaching a trench. Yellow to beige colors represent the trench-fill lithofacies. Green, purple, and blue colors represent the volcanic strata of the ocean plate lithofacies. Black, gray, and red colors represent the pelagic sedimentary strata of ocean plate lithofacies.
How do metamorphic fluids transport and mineralize CO₂ and rare earth elements? A new #GSABulletin study examines carbonate-silicate veins in northeastern Connecticut, finding efficient CO₂ trapping and HREE retention by garnet. doi.org/10.1130/B39283.1

What controls tungsten (W) fertility in granitic systems? A new study from the Hukeng W deposit (South China) shows that W fertility is controlled by the combined effects of magma source, extreme magmatic differentiation, and fluid–melt interaction, rather than low oxygen fugacity alone. doi.org/10.1130/B38893.1
