For my first story (!) as a reporter at @TheAtlantic, I traveled to Ohio to figure out if Democrats might finally win this year. The answer: Maybe—as long they don't talk about the Democratic Party. theatlantic.com/politics/202…

Republicans are losing ground in Ohio for the first time in years, @gsdeutch reports. The key to the Democratic strategy? Don’t mention their party at all. theatlantic.com/politics/202…

Younger Republicans have become much more negative toward the Israeli people in recent years, driving large age differences within the GOP. Republicans 50 and older are much more likely to have a positive view of the Israeli people than Republicans under 35 (79% vs. 43%).

Worth noting that AIPAC will still apparently be directing members to donate ~individually~ to congressional candidates, but the donations will no longer be tagged with the word "AIPAC" in FEC data
Five years after AIPAC made the consequential — and controversial — decision to endorse congressional candidates, the group said it will no longer do so Very notable news on Israel politics from my former colleague @marcrod97 jewishinsider.com/2026/10/ai…

"In multiple rallies, Trump has gone on and on about the relative hotness of male politicians, soldiers, and even protesters. As a result, people on the internet have diagnosed him with a novel medical condition: gay dementia." From @helenlewis: theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1…

NEW: The big tech midterm realignment could have huge implications in 2028. Trump has made his party the defenders of Silicon Valley execs. Democrats see a populist windfall. The proof is in the ad spending data. theatlantic.com/politics/202…

I too judge a city's success by the prominence of its downtown Nordstrom Rack
Nordstrom Rack will open next year at 2 Stockton Street, near Union Square! Three years ago, companies were leaving San Francisco. Today, they want to be here, and Nordstrom Rack’s decision to return to the heart of our city is another sign of the growing confidence in San Francisco. The 50,000 square foot Nordstrom Rack is just the latest example of retail coming back downtown.  We're making our streets safer and cleaner, bringing people back downtown, cutting red tape, and creating the conditions for businesses to succeed. I'm thrilled that Nordstrom is choosing to invest in San Francisco again, and look forward to welcoming Nordstrom Rack as we continue building on our city's momentum.

The breadth of this reporting is astounding: "...interviews with more than 40 [!!] current and former administration officials, FBI employees, and members of Congress and their staffers, as well as others close to the White House" Read @S_Fitzpatrick:
Agents across the country have been seeking counsel in recent weeks about how to respond to FBI directives related to the election, according to 6 current and former FBI and DOJ supervisors and outside defense attorneys who told me they have received calls. @TheAtlantic theatlantic.com/politics/202…
