ALT The front cover of GALLUS, a short story anthology by the GSFWC. The cover depicts a gender swapped version of St Mungo, patron saint of Glasgow. It’s a woman with flowing ginger hair, surrounded by brightly coloured symbols of St Mungo’s myth - bells, fish and a gull.
ALT Image text: A Gift And A Curse by Annabel Campbell- one of my favourites has a tense magical battle between a magician and her old master who seems insane. Just as much as we have an excellent battle of magics there is a dark circle of fate about to be closed and restarted which gives the whole tale a more sinister edge.
ALT A photo of award-winning author E M Faulds MCing the launch. Behind her the lights have made a dappled effect on the wall that looks like fiery wings.
ALT A writer wearing a blue and red Lindisfarne shawl.
ALT A painted book cover with the main image being a person with long blond hair. They have large bell shaped earrings and one hand up which is tickling the chin of a golden fish. Above the fish is a seagull in flight. A second golden fish is swimming over their left shoulder. They are surrounded in what look to be drapes of cloth in green, scaled red and black night with stars. Bubbles dance around their head. In the top left in a drawn font is the title "Gallus" with a sub-heading of "A Glasgow SF Writers' Circle Anthology" In the top right are two quoted comments. The first by Ken MacLeod reads "... Lives up to its name with swagger and style!" The second by Eliza Chan reads "A joy to read!" Over the person's chest is the text in white "Hal Duncan, Cameron Jonston, Ruth EJ Booth And Many More..." and "Edited by E. M. Faulds, Brian M. Milton & Neil Williamson"
ALT A painted image, continuing from the front cover. The drapes of cloth continue across the image with starry sky above and green below, developing into landscape. In the upper section is another golden fish. Below this is a swath of sky with a moon and buildings resembling the Finnieston Crane, the Hydro Auditorium and other buildings in the area of the Scottish Exhibition Campus. Below this is a green area with the statue of the Duke of Wellington, a black statue of a man on horseback with an orange and white traffic cone on his head. There is a sense of motion to the horse. Alongside is another gull and some trees. On the left are the artists initials in a box: JMC. Over this are the following words in white text: Gallus Scots, adj. Bold, daring or high-spirited It's the spirit of Glasgow, and the well that has fueled the pens of the Glasgow SF Writers' Circle for almost forty years. This anthology is a snapshot of the Circle today. 25 fantastical stories spanning a spectrum of genres
