Back in September, I watched Gambia U17 at the WAFU A tournament and was particularly impressed by Omar Marong (‘10, 🇬🇲), as I highlighted in my thread back then. Alieu Saine also really caught my eye. Now, both have reportedly joined Newcastle United for one-month trials!

#NUFC

Two days ago, David Boly (‘09, 🇫🇷) scored for PSG against Villareal in the UCL! I expected him at the U17 WC, but instead he’s been called up to the U19s, which shows how far he has already progressed beyond U17 level. Since March, I’ve praised Boly several times on X:

🌐 The U17 World Cup kicks off in two weeks. Here are two players to watch from each of the 48 countries: I’ve avoided the obvious picks (e.g. Tunkara, Chole, Boly, Ordoñez, Conceição…). Final squads are still being announced, so I’ll update if anyone misses out. [🧵Thread]

About six months ago, I shared an XI of U19 players who impressed me while watching youth football. Now, it’s time to revisit those players and see how they’ve progressed. Six months is a short period, but it’s still interesting to look at how things have developed. [🧵Thread]

ST: Otto Stange (‘07, 🇩🇪) | Hamburg I first watched Stange at the U19 Euro qualifiers in March:

Replying to @GXSscouting
🇩🇪Otto Stange (19) | Hamburg - ST Tall striker with sharp killer instincts in the box. Comfortable dropping deep to link play, carrying the ball forward or even wide. Robust build, solid aerial strength and capable of operating as a false nine too.

6 months later: Stange finished as joint top scorer at the U19 Euros with 4 goals as Germany reached the final. He has since made 5 Bundesliga appearances for HSV. With HSV’s other strikers injured, a starting spot could be within reach. His contract runs until 2028.

Four months later, Otto Stange is the U19 Euros’ leading G/A contributor with 4 goals and 1 assist in 3 games. He’s also tied as the tournament’s top scorer with Spain’s José Antonio Morante, both on four goals. 👀 Germany face an elite Spain side in Saturday’s final.
