Breast, larynx, limb, rectum, esophagus, mesothelioma.
Bladder is next. Patients want their organs. 🧵
Fully deserved. Muyembe's contributions to Ebola treatment and Piot's work from HIV to pandemic preparedness shaped modern infectious disease research. As an immunologist, I can say their legacy runs through much of the field today.
Congratulations to dear friends of mine, Professor @MTamfum and Professor Peter Piot on receiving @virchowprize 2026.
Together, they have helped transform our understanding of infectious diseases and strengthened the world's capacity to detect, investigate and respond to outbreaks.
The careers of Professors Muyembe and Piot show what is possible when scientific excellence is matched by determination, collaboration and solidarity.
Thank you for your lifelong service to protecting and promoting health.

Daraufhin wurde er fristlos entlassen. Er tat damals genau das, wozu das Paul-Ehrlich-Institut gesetezllich verpflichtet war. Bis heute hat das PEI jedoch keine solchen Analysen veröffentlicht. Jetzt meldet sich Schöfbeck nach vielen Jahren zu Wort.

Mildly reduced ejection fraction should not mean missed treatment opportunities.
Our new report in JACC: Heart Failure examines discharge prescribing in 372,197 patients across 603 hospitals, including 36,708 with HFmrEF. The message: progress, but a substantial treatment gap remains.
From 2021 to 2024, quadruple therapy in HFmrEF increased from 1.7% to 13.8%—but remained well below 35.2% in HFrEF. The biggest gains in HFmrEF were in SGLT2 inhibitors (6.0% → 44.1%) and MRAs (22.8% → 36.1%).
Despite these improvements, HFmrEF prescribing continued to resemble HFpEF more than HFrEF. Recommendation strength differs across drug classes, but the opportunity to improve implementation is clear.
The takeaway: make hospital discharge a deliberate checkpoint for treatment eligibility and GDMT optimization, not a missed opportunity for patients with HFmrEF.
