The Joy of Cryptography is now available for free online, in its entirety. joyofcryptography.com/
Thanks to @mitpress for supporting open access.
I've been working on a tool to help humans write and understand game-hopping security proofs. It's just for "pen-and-paper" reasoning, not a formal verification tool. 1/3
The idea is to facilitate reasoning about a sequence of hybrids/hops, both "vertically" (a single hybrid's behavior) and "horizontally" (how a single line evolves throughout the sequence).
We successfully used the tool to write the proofs for our Eurocrypt submission! 2/3
You can try it out at hops.garbledcircus.com/
Click the big "?" at the top for a usage tutorial and to load a few example proofs (including the one in the screenshots here). 3/3
My first experiment with LLM-assisted coding: an editor for writing sequence of hybrids. There is no formal verification; it's just display logic for "pen and paper" security proofs, meant to help the author reason about the sequence of hybrids "horizontally" and "vertically".

I resigned from Google DeepMind bc it broke its founding promise by selling AI to the military without restrictions against killer robots or mass spying.
For months, I worked to stop this but watched powerful ethicists and institutions choose silence.
Here's what happened. 🧵

I’m so saddened to hear of the passing of Michael Rabin this morning.
Michael was a father of modern cryptography, a true legend. And I was fortunate to be able to call him my teacher.
If you’re reading this post or did anything else on the internet today, you’ve most definitely used technology that he pioneered.
When I had the privilege to study under Michael, he was already over 80 years old. But I’ve never had a more energetic teacher, someone who was so passionate not only about understanding the universe, but about sharing that knowledge with the next generation.
The world lost a giant today.
May his memory be a blessing.

Masked agents of the US state are executing people in the streets and powerful leaders are openly lying to cover for them.
To everyone in my industry who’s ever claimed to value freedom—draw on the courage of your convictions and stand up.
Don't write a textbook unless all existing textbooks on the topic make you irrationally angry. If you do write one, your reward is that there will now be one more textbook making you irrationally angry, but this one will have your name on it.
The Joy of Cryptography is finally on bookshelves! Thanks to @mitpress for supporting the adventure. The book will eventually be completely open-access, but for now the first 3 chapters are available at joyofcryptography.com, featuring some fun interactive elements.
Shoutout to @rougeux for the lovely website design! He only had to wait 4 years for me to actually finish the book.
