Viewing the people of developing nations as an inexhaustible source of cheap labour to be exploited doing the jobs you don't want to do yourself isn't the leftist position you think it is!
It was the movies, without the success of the Star Trek movies there is no Next Generation.
It's nice having this 5 minutes walk from my doorstep
The views from Sefton Park are anything but scary this Halloween 🎃

Tried to get a bus out of town about 6:30 last night, gave up and got a taxi. The bus network is becoming unusable and the council and city region are sticking their heads in the sand and hoping shiny new vehicles will fix everything!

Does this mean that @merseyrail will be taking over the Bidston-Wrexhsm line and extending the Ellesmere port service to Warrington Bank Quay?
I see that railcards are the subject of this week's twitter meltdown. Simple solution, get rid of them all and implement a UK version of the Swiss half price travel card.

The next Star Trek series or film has to have a USS Picard!
SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

This will never be built. Millions being wasted on plans that will lead to nothing!
#BreakingNews | The preferred location for the world's largest tidal power scheme has been revealed.
A 1.5-mile stretch of the River Mersey has been identified as the preferred zone to develop a barrage between Wirral and Liverpool, which would create thousands of jobs, generate clean energy for over 120 years and protect businesses and homes from flooding caused by rising sea levels.
Mayor Steve Rotheram said: “At a time when events around the world can send energy prices soaring, we need to make better use of the resources we have on our own doorstep. We should be generating more of our own energy, strengthening our energy security and creating good jobs here at home.
"And with the potential to protect homes and businesses from rising sea levels too, this could be an investment in our region's future that our children, grandchildren and generations beyond them could still be benefiting from a century from now."

By the end of the decade @MetroMayorSteve is going have about £0.5 billion extra a year to play with. He has no excuse now not to invest in the infrastructure the city region desperately needs. Things like a rail link to the airport, a tram network, expanding Merseyrail..
This isn't a comment on whether this is right or wrong but just to point out that there is always money to be found if they want it. The magic money tree is a forest if political opinion favours what it's being spent on!

🇱🇨NEW BLOG POST!🇬🇧
For #BlackHistoryMonth, we've uncovered the life & story of Joe Armley - one of Britain's first railway workers of colour!
Discover Joe's story, from St Lucia to London in the 1890s, working on the railway.
And what's more - images of Joe at work exist!
I'm going to pay my 25% increase in energy bills by monthly d/d so I guess he's technically correct it's not an every day cost!
100 days ago, I promised to do things differently.
From cutting everyday costs to handing power back to communities, change is already underway.
But I know there’s much more to do - this is just the beginning.

This will get barely a mention in tomorrow's budget yet getting energy prices back down to historical norms would improve so many things. Every household would be!£1000 better off a year, small business would save thousands. The government itself would save billions a year!
It's a good thing that this will never happen. The £6bn figure is from years ago, the true cost will be north of £10bn and it will produce the most expensive energy in the country. There's zero chance of the government funding it. Rotherham has wasted millions on a vanity project
Let's be realistic Manchester already has a velodrome, Olympic standard swimming/diving facilities and bigger arenas for indoor events like boxing and gymnastics. Liverpool will get the sailing and maybe rowing/canoeing if they don't use the venues built for 2012 to save on costs
🏅 Could the Olympics come to the North of England?
A £7m fund, set to be announced in Wednesday’s Budget, will support a feasibility study into a potential bid.
If successful, the Games could be held in the North in the 2040s.
