From disinformation and regulatory backlash to a silent mental health crisis unfolding online, the threats to public health are no longer on the horizon – they are here.
This urgent reality shaped my remarks at the 4th Meeting of the Global Coalition of Deans of Schools of Public Health, held on the sidelines of #WHA78 and co-moderated by public health champions Margaret Chan and Antoine Flahault.
I’ve emphasized that in a time of rapid change, we must do more than respond. We must reimagine global public health and rethink the role that @WHO, academia, and our partners play in shaping its future.
Artificial intelligence, digital platforms, and new technologies hold great promise - but also serious risks.
The next generation of public health leaders must be ready to face this reality. We need professionals who are:
✔️ Digitally literate and AI-aware
✔️ Skilled in tackling disinformation and engaging the public
✔️ Anchored in empathy, integrity, and equity
✔️ Courageous in standing up for smart regulation and public good
It is about leading with purpose.
I invited Schools of Public Health to join us in building a future where public health is not sidelined or silenced – but empowered to meet people where they are, protect their well-being, and defend their rights.
This includes new collaborations beyond Europe – such as our partnership with Shanghai Medical College at Fudan University. With the support of Professor Wu Fan, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding to advance innovation, education, and leadership in public health – together.

⚕️Spotlight on the 4EU+ Alliance at the 2025 Geneva Health Forum
From 20 to 21 May, the @Genevaforum (GHF) brought together experts from international organizations and the @4EUplusAlliance for a series of strategic meetings and public events exploring the intersection of migration and global health. This collaboration was part of GHF’s 2025 programme, which featured eight public symposia alongside the World Health Assembly.
🔷Highlights included:
• Discussions with WHO representative for collaborative frameworks.
• A session on the "Society of Refugee Healthcare Providers," exploring collaborative approaches between the 4EU+ and The Society of Refugee Healthcare Providers to enhance the health and well-being of refugees and migrants.
• A public conference, "Changing the Story: Collaboration & Solutions for Migrant Health," featuring powerful insights from experts including Prof. Khaled Ismail (Charles University) and Prof. @BlanchetKarl (@Hum_StudiesGVA & Faculty of Medicine)
The events sparked meaningful dialogue on how migration can drive innovation and contribute to more resilient healthcare systems. This collaboration marks a step forward in building global partnerships and fostering shared solutions for global health.

In 2023, 260 000 women died due to pregnancy-related complications.
That’s one death every two minutes. ⏳
With humanitarian crises and aid cuts threatening already fragile progress, urgent action is needed to
💙 invest in lifesaving maternity care
💙 ensure gender equality and rights.
