Here’s a short video of Gerfalcon setting off with the fleet at the Great Wakering Regatta.
A wonderful sight as the boats got underway, and a fitting start to a fantastic day on the water.
After a challenging few months, it was wonderful to get Gerfalcon back on the water at the Great Wakering Regatta. We had great fun embracing a 1930s theme aboard our 1937 boat, with crew and guests dressed for the occasion.
A lovely sunny day spent aboard Gerfalcon yesterday, making the most of the weather. ☀️
Clare managed to rig herself a hammock and relax for a while… before we put her to work cleaning the hull! 😄
We’re still working through a few jobs and teething problems.
4 June 1940 — the final day of Operation Dynamo.
While researching archives discovered an Admiralty signal issued on this day, congratulating all involved in the successful evacuation from Dunkirk & paying tribute to the endurance, courage and cooperation that made it possible.
Unfortunately, a combination of engine problems and an unexpected trip to hospital meant we weren’t able to get away in time.
It’s disappointing after so much hard work from everyone involved, but she’s back afloat, progress has been made, and there’s always next year. ⚓️

Seeing Gerfalcon afloat again and looking so different after everything she’s been through is quite emotional. It’s been such a hard slog for everyone involved, but moments like this make it all worthwhile 🌊

Thank you to everybody who has supported us, volunteered, encouraged us, or simply believed in the project. Getting this far has taken an enormous collective effort and tonight meant a great deal to all of us. ⚓️

This project has only been possible because of the dedication, time & support of so many people over the past year.
As well as restoring Gerfalcon, we spend a great deal of time researching at the archives. It was a pleasure this evening to share the remarkable story of Viking, a vessel connected to Councillor Jo McPherson’s ward, which helped save over 1,000 men during Dunkirk.

It’s been all hands on deck, and the team have been busy getting her ready. But she’s looking incredible — honestly the best shape she’s been in for decades.
After a year of hard work, Gerfalcon is nearly ready to head for the 86th Anniversary of Dunkirk. ⚓🇬🇧
