I am surprised that people are surprised this is how I prompt Claude. Talk to Claude the way you would a coworker. There's no secret to prompting. There's no need to be overly scaffolded or prescriptive for most tasks -- give Claude a goal, and it will figure it out. Back in the Sonnet 3.5 days, your prompt mattered a lot. Nowadays, it's much more important to communicate to the model: 1. What you want it to do 2. How much effort you want it to spend 3. How it should verify that it did the right thing

If you had enough resources, you could run an LLM on a wooden system of gears and diesel power. It would be massive, but watching the gears and levers move, it would be evident that the outputs are not the result of a mind. Part of the illusion of LLMs is the tiny scale of GPUs.

imagine if Santa Claus and Mrs Claus went to war with each other by delivering escalating presents to people throughout the year. that's basically the AI competition right now between OpenAI and Anthropic. Santa Claude

Whatever criticisms you may have of current AI models-that they can’t perform certain tasks, aren’t intelligent enough, or lack specific capabilities-won’t hold true within a year or two, if not sooner. Continuing to deny this inevitability is genuinely pointless. Just saying.

My god, I watched it at least ten times. Two Figure02s helped each other and even understood each other. Swarm intelligence is opening up. Today is a key historical moment for AI-driven humanoid robots to enter the home. Figure created it.

Half of “prompt engineering” was actually just prompting LLMs to act like Reasoners before the labs realized that was a thing.
This chart is very useful if you want to get AI to do anything complicated. It explains the two currently most advanced ways to prompt LLMs: multiple shot chain of thought (give it examples in the prompt) & step-by-step (ask it to go step-by-step) Combining the two worked best.

The classic software startup writes code to solve users' problems. If AI makes writing code more of a commodity, understanding users' problems will become the most important component of starting a startup. But it already is.

Chess prodigy Josh Waitzkin developed a process to achieve peak performance in any craft or career. He’s applied it to the world of investing, professional sports, science and more. The MIQ Process. It is not a quick fix, but rather a rewiring of your default settings.

My theory why quality is so rare is that it is rare to have people care for their work or allowed to care for their work. The culture shifted from people doing their craft to fastest way to check the checkbox grantslatton.com/nobody-care…

Tip: If you want to easily make any website content temporarily editable (for mocking up content changes, for example), just add a bookmark to Chrome with this code: javascript:(function(){document.body.contentEditable='true'; document.designMode='on';})() Then you just click the "bookmarklet" and the page will be editable right in your browser (until you refresh, of course).

It's conventional wisdom that focusing too much on work / ambition / wealth isn't the optimal way to live a happy life. Turns out there's an actual chemical explanation for why: @maxjoseph

So are you are a "startup person"? I mean, for real? If so, you won't be happier if you: * Take it easier * Go join a BigCo to coast * Quietly do the same thing every day * Stick it out for a decent salary * Ignore work after 4p * Don't own anything * Don't make something that matters ... better At some point, everyone has to hang it up. At some point, we just can't do the crazy things, climb another peak, do it all again. At that point, find the easy path. Find the greener path. Until then, expect some frustration. Expect a little "grass is greener" feeling when you see folks seemingly working less and making more. Expect once in a while, wondering if it's worth it. Expect a boss that cares as much to push you harder than you want to be pushed, from time to time. But this is you. This is path that chose you. It's not always one that makes you zen, or happy, or even content. It will make you unsettled many times, in fact. But it's the one that challenges you. The one that keeps you young at heart, engaged. The one that fills every single day. Stay on that path.

When you meet an extraordinary PM, you don't find: • Beautiful docs • Amazing work ethic • Totally responsive to everything You actually find: • Ruthless prioritization • Ability to connect with colleagues • First principles thinking on what to build

Alright Twitter, do your thing. Find me a Los Angeles based lab (academic or commercial) that can help on the solid state synthesis of Cu3P. We need that P, but must follow the rules. teapawt.net/andrewmccalip/status/1…

Problem! Sigma-Aldrich has kindly pointed out that it is illegal for me to purchase red phosphorus without a DEA license. Apparently it's used in other less interesting stuff like drugs. This is a big problem. The paper calls for the synthesis of Copper Phosphide from copper powder and red phosphorus.

Ocean Farm 1 was the first offshore fish farm. It can contain 250,000 m³ in volume and withstand magnitude 12 earthquakes. About 20,000 sensors allow the marine site to achieve complete automation to mature up to 1.5 million fish in 14 months [read more: buff.ly/2VvJpLg]
