To date, we've funded over 23,000 projects, kick-starting repair of 4,600 bridges and improving almost 70,000 miles of roads.
Every week, shovels are hitting the ground around the country — and we're just getting started.

Major props to the designer and contractor of this project. They went beyond the minimim and did a good job adding temporary walkways and protected bike lanes.

Streets are better when they’re filled with people, rather than just parked cars.
Maybe it isn't the litter but the Caltrans freeways and roadways that is the real problem. A take-off on the "Let's Change This to That' greenwashing campaign. gettingaroundsac.blog/2023/0…

This award-winning “complete street” redesign in Hyattsville, Maryland is just a deadly, greenwashed stroad. It doesn’t protect anyone outside an automobile and drivers routinely speed due to the design.
In 2021, a woman walking across it was fatally struck by an automobile.

966. That's the number of people killed while #biking in 2021, as reported by @NHTSAgov in its newly-released fatality data. It's the highest number in more than four decades. Benchmarking #bikedata like this is crucial for demanding #SafeStreetsForAll ➡️ bikeleague.org/new-fatality-…

Look at this street design. How, in any way, is this safe for people walking or biking outside of motor vehicles? It's filled with slip lanes, unprotected bike lanes, and long crosswalks.
The term "complete street" has clearly been co-opted by transportation engineers.

Cyclist Steven Hardy-Braz was a disability advocate long before he was struck by a driver. In his wheelchair, though, he's found that the simple act of occupying an inaccessible public space can be a form of protest — and recently, it landed him in jail.

Green, wide and handsome. 😍
As we explained in our recent working paper "Designing for Small Things with Wheels," wider lanes allow users on a variety of devices—including e-bikes and cargo bikes— to ride and pass safely!

Say hello to NYC’s first wider #BikeNYC lane! To support increased cycling & e-micromobility, we doubled the width of bike lanes on four blocks of 9th Ave in Manhattan as part of a resurfacing project. We’ll monitor use & plan to roll out additional wider lanes this year.
“It was ordinary cyclists, organized by the Union, that helped to write the Bible for bike-friendly road design in the Netherlands. It’s the same manual–with some updates–that’s in use across the country today and that people from all over the world hope to emulate.”
The Netherlands is now a cycling paradise, but that was far from inevitable. After being nearly pushed off the road in favor of cars in the 1970s, bikes fought their way back in one of the great comebacks in history.
