The Democrats may have taken control of the House and the Senate, they may have humiliated Donald Trump and the Republican Party, but the real fight is only beginning. It is not simply a battle to hold the corrupt Trump regime to account, something that can only be done if the Democrats are willing overcome their reluctance to carry out impeachment proceedings against the president. It is also a battle to sweep away the corporate-indentured hierarchy of the Democratic Party, including Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries.
The Democratic Party since the presidency of Bill Clinton, who gave us the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the greatest betrayal of the working class since the 1947 Taft-Hartley Act, and gutted New Deal-era welfare programs such as the Aid to Families with Dependent Children, is a more polished version of corporate and oligarchic rule, abjectly subservient to the war machine, the Israel lobby and their funders in the billionaire class.
The country is broken. Corruption, in both parties, is endemic. Federal agencies have been hollowed out and destroyed. The courts, including the Supreme Court, have been handed over to right-wing ideologues. The working class is crippled with debt peonage and substandard wages. Constitutional norms and protections have been erased. Billionaires, including Trump, pay little to no income tax. The 2010 Citizens United Supreme Court ruling, which allows big business to fund their hand-picked candidates, sustains a system of legalized bribery.
The public may clamor for a raise in the minimum wage, Medicare for All, regulation of the big banks and private equity firms, an end to arms shipments to Israel and campaign finance reform, but no one in the leadership of the Democratic Party listens or cares. They serve their paymasters.
Will cutthroat capitalism, sold to us under the sanitized name of neoliberalism, be allowed to continue to impoverish the citizenry and funnel wealth upwards into the hands of the 1 percent? Will corporations be regulated and policed? Will corporate criminals be brought to trial? Will our democracy be restored? Or will the grotesque sight of a trillionaire, Elon Musk, gutting federal agencies and pouring hundreds of millions into elections to try and control the outcome be normalized?
The handful of politicians who attempt to confront the corruption and the devastation visited on the American working class through deindustrialization and deregulation, such as Bernie Sanders, see their campaigns sabotaged by the Democratic Party leadership, including Barack Obama.
We must demand that progressive candidates, including Michigan senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed and Maine’s Troy Jackson, build coalitions to oust the Democratic Party leadership, raise the minimum wage, enact universal health care, prosecute corporate crime and impeach Trump. It will be up to us.
The Democratic Party hierarchy will see the results not as a repudiation of Trump, but an endorsement of the flaccid and ineffectual position of a party that stands for little and fights for less. This would be yet another betrayal by the Democrats of voters. It would keep alive the very real prospect of another fascist, one better organized and more intelligent, taking the White House in two years.
Of course, this fight will mean not only jettisoning a corrupt Democratic Party leadership, but turning on the mega-donors, lobbyists and corporations that fund and control the Democratic Party.
The effort to wrest the party back from the hands of corporations and oligarchs will be vicious and difficult. It will require us to rely on the power of mass movements to sever these bonds. Nothing else will work.
If we fail, our anemic democracy will not be saved by these midterm elections, but doomed.

Centuries ago, someone invented this magnificent instrument, and another created this breathtaking piece of music. Now, we get to witness such a brilliant performance. Life truly is a miracle.💖

Four weeks of wall squats reduced systolic blood pressure by nearly 10 points in adults with high blood pressure.
Researchers then compared continuing three sessions weekly with reducing to two, one, or none for another month. Systolic pressure remained roughly 7 mmHg below starting levels in the once- and twice-weekly groups. Continuing three sessions weekly produced the greatest reduction of about 14 mmHg. In those who stopped completely, blood pressure moved back toward baseline.
This fits with a previous analysis of randomized trials that identified isometric exercise, which involves holding a muscle contraction, as an effective way to lower resting blood pressure.
What interests me is the practical question - how much of an exercise benefit can we preserve when we temporarily have less time? This study suggests that reducing the frequency can retain part of the benefit for up to a month.

"I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
- Matthew 28:20
These words contain a truth humanity has not yet fully grasped.
Christ did not come into the world, complete His mission, and depart.
Through the Mystery of Golgotha, He united Himself with the evolution of the Earth.
The Resurrection was not the end of His work.
It was the beginning of a new relationship between Christ and humanity.
Through His death and Resurrection, Christ united Himself with the spiritual life of the Earth.
What had previously been a cosmic Being became intimately connected with the destiny of humanity.
The Earth itself became the sphere of His continuing activity.
The ancient forms of clairvoyance faded as humanity became increasingly self-conscious, intellectual, and free.
Yet the spiritual world did not disappear.
Christ remained.
The task of modern humanity is not to return to ancient consciousness, but to consciously develop new faculties of spiritual perception.
Dr. Steiner speaks of the awakening of "spiritual eyes".
Through inner development, meditation and moral striving, the human being can gradually become receptive to realities beyond the physical senses.
Humanity has entered an age in which the living Christ becomes perceptible, not in a physical body, but in the etheric world.
This is not a physical appearance witnessed simultaneously by all humanity.
Rather, it is a gradual development of individual human consciousness.
Some will become capable of experiencing the living Christ before others, as new spiritual faculties awaken throughout humanity.
Like Paul on the road to Damascus, human beings can learn to encounter the risen Christ as a present reality.
But the awakening of spiritual perception must go hand in hand with moral development.
As human beings overcome selfishness and cultivate genuine compassion and selfless Love, they increasingly embody the Christ Impulse in their own lives.
Christ is not merely someone whose words we study, whose deeds we remember, or whose example we attempt to imitate.
He is a living spiritual being with whom humanity can establish an increasingly conscious relationship.
And why does this matter?
Because one of the great tasks of evolution is to become free beings whose actions arise from moral intuition and love, rather than external compulsion.
Human beings were not created merely to obey divine laws unconsciously.
We must become free, conscious beings capable of choosing the good out of our own inner nature.
But freedom also creates the possibility of selfishness.
Christ makes possible its transformation.
Not through compulsion.
Through Love freely chosen.
Perhaps the first step towards recognizing Christ is not to look towards the heavens, but to transform the way we encounter one another.
The Mystery of Golgotha belongs to history.
Its significance belongs to eternity.
The question is not whether Christ is present.
The question is whether we are developing the eyes to perceive Him.

Saint Sophrony said Christ still loves those who are in Hell. In fact, He stands right by their side and burns with them. But how can this be? Well, it doesn’t make much sense from the perspective of linear time. But the Harrowing of Hades was an eternal and timeless event. This was when Christ was crucified, descended into Hell, and rescued its prisoners.
The Uncontainable One could not be contained there, and blew the gates right open. The darkness could not overcome the Light, and it illumined the abyss. Like the Scriptures say, God is everywhere and fills all things, and His presence cannot be escaped, even in Sheol.
This means God’s Love transcends space and time and reality itself. It reaches even into the realm of nothingness, where souls are scorched by the black flames of nonexistence. Moses met God in a burning bush. The three youths met God in a furnace. And many of us meet God in Hell too. But this a great paradox!
When we realize what Saint Sophrony said was true, Hell becomes Paradise. We realize we are already with Christ, who sweats, bleeds, and suffers as we do. The Crucifixion was eternal and timeless too! So, all we have to do is surrender and participate in it. Then, we will also participate in the Resurrection, here and now!
After all, the Resurrection created a New Day, an 8th Day that’s infinite. Isn’t this what the Pascha celebration is all about? And don’t the saints say everyday is Pascha? It can be, but it requires finding the kingdom within, which is a violent battle. It’s being swallowed by the Leviathan and tearing through the belly of the beast. It’s fighting tooth and nail, and clawing our way through our own emptiness to find that hidden spark, that priceless pearl buried beneath all the muck and the mire. So, if you’re in Hell, keep digging! It can’t be too much deeper!

In fact, Jacob didn’t even know his opponent was God at first. God appeared as a mysterious stranger until Jacob finally saw Him face to face at the break of dawn. This symbolism is even more interesting because it implies we cannot know God until we’ve wrestled with life and been broken by it, only to realize all our trials and tribulations were mysteriously orchestrated by Providence to humble us into truly spiritual people. In other words, God is the Rock at rock bottom.
Jacob wrestled with a God all night and refused to let Him go until he got a blessing. Eventually, Jacob got his blessing, but broke a hip in the process. I love the symbolism of this story because it implies if we struggle with unanswered prayers long enough, we will get a response. But it might require a painful dark night of the soul.
