"Birnam Wood takes its title from Shakespeare’s Macbeth, but it’s not a straight-up adaption of the play. Instead, every one of the characters is a contender for the role of the ambitious anti-hero." #ScotiabankGillerPrize #GillerPrize #CravingCanLit

"The Double Life of Benson Yu began as I reconsidered my own childhood as a bullied kid who could never admit he was a bullied kid. In this novel, a washed-up writer tells a story of his childhood in Chinatown in the 1980s." #ScotiabankGillerPrize #GillerPrize #CravingCanLit

"Study for Obedience was inspired by the painter Paula Rego’s suggestion that women’s obedience, their acts of service, can be, as she said, “murderous.”" #ScotiabankGillerPrize #GillerPrize #CravingCanLit
