Help Ramadhan Luvandale end malaria! Ramadhan has a full PhD scholarship to research vector-borne disease, but he needs £1400 to cover flights and UK entry fees so he can take up the funding. Check out his GoFundMe page!

Hey @KeyTravel, what do you mean by "technical reasons?" This wastes my time and has cost my employer money!
Cool new paper by @NoebelSabine and colleagues shows how conformity in mate preference might evolve in a metapopulation. Lots of fun things to think about in this one!
New paper out with colleagues from @EDB_Lab, CRCA, @IASToulouse and @TSEinfo. A truly interdisciplinary overview of human and animal conformity and how it might have evolved. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

Hey Mancunians! Are there jumping spiders on the exterior walls of your house? If so, which direction does the wall face and is there a garden there?
#jumpingspiders #manchester
At some times of day (eg, ~10:00 am) I can guarantee I will find a jumping spider on the outside of my south wall facing the garden. I never see them on the north or east walls, but there are no gardens there. Is it the aspect, the garden, or something else?
Note: The photo in the first tweet is not mine. It belongs to @michaeljmarlow, and I borrowed it to get your attention. The photographer has very some nice work posted here: bugphoto.net/galleries/

New study led by @CalumBridson and @jkrowan. It's a survey of honeybee microbiomes in NW England with something pretty neat in it. There was weak evidence that the microbiome diversity of individual bees depends on the genetic diversity of the colony. 1/3

To my knowledge, this is the first evidence that host-associated microbiomes may be shaped by the genotypes of OTHER individuals in the population. The study also found a relationship between landscape and microbiome, with less diverse microbiomes in more urban settings. 2/3
