Attending Wolf's @huggingface talk at @appliedmldays #AMLD on their huge investments to create an Open Source LLM. I am very frustrated that the talk did not mention at all the likely misuses for mass disinformation, hate speech, bullying & war mongering by rogue entities.

Incredible proud to see this kicking off! Almost 3 y ago we started to explore how to build an open corpus of Kinyarwanda voice data to develop speech technology 4 digital inclusion from it. And we did so with a hackathon! @mozilla @KellyJayDavis @_josh_meyer_ @danbru8 @jankrewer

This is basically all I research/practice: Short answer - Big NO. We still have not translated agreed 🌎 human right norms fully in digital age. Before we go inventing magical new “data” rights and what not, let’s adequately apply the 70 + years of precedents we already have

Timely question. In my view, it depends what we mean by "new" - derivative rights? Reinterpretations of existing rights? Positive support for traditionally "negative" rights? New rights entirely? To what end?
