JAM: Parachains are just the beginning.
@Polkadot is moving from a relay chain built around parachains to a system built around services.
With JAM, parachains become one type of service among many, sharing cores while relying on JAM for consensus, security and execution.
Here's how the Parachain Service works:
🔹 Shared cores: One service can host multiple parachains, allocating cores to system chains and community projects.
🔹 Flexible architecture: Developers keep the familiar parachain model, while JAM enables applications that don't need their own blockchain.
🔹 Work packages: Parachain blocks are bundled into JAM work packages and processed through authorization, refinement and accumulation.
🔹 Shared security: Guarantors re-execute work packages, while validators handle state updates and bookkeeping.
The bigger picture?
JAM doesn't eliminate parachains. It makes them part of a broader execution environment where different services can coexist.
