For example, six ICC Member States, including Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Niger, Venezuela, and Naoero, have announced their intention to withdraw from the Rome Statute.
However, this not only sends a message to victims and survivors. It is a signal to alleged violators or countries where human rights violations may have occurred that the ICC has lost its legitimacy.
These sanctions prevent the commitment to holding alleged violators accountable in a court of law. Amanda Strayer, Sen Counsel for Accountability at HRF: “The victims and survivors who have looked to the Court to uphold that promise may now have no means to achieve any justice.”
Prohibiting U.S. companies from engaging in business transactions with the ICC after the wind-down period, with limited exceptions
Prohibiting US persons from working for the ICC, or generally providing any services or support to the ICC without risking civil or criminal penalties after a six-month wind-down period
As part of a program and broader campaign to dismantle the ICC spearheaded by the Administration, today’s sanctions specifically include:
This is part of a series of sanctions targeting ICC officials associated w/ investigations relating to Afghanistan & Palestine that implicate US & Israeli officials, which includes the UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories & 3 Palestinian human rights orgs
This week’s action is a disruption to the rule of law, purely motivated by the Trump administration’s goal of seeking retribution against political enemies and the institution within which they work.

It is worrisome to see the Government of Turkey's crackdown on LGBTQI groups and individuals. No person should suffer from discrimination because of who they are or whom they love.
I introduced the GLOBE Act earlier this Congress to restore the United States's role in promoting LGBTQI rights around the world and punishing regimes like Turkey that persecute people based on their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Turkey launched a operation targeting LGBTQ+ associations, businesses and individuals, while a court separately ordered dozens of LGBTQ+-linked websites and social-media accounts to be blocked bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

“I am alarmed by the detention and legal action against dozens of LGBTQ+ persons and organizations across Türkiye. Human rights are universal.
Congress should take up and pass my Global Respect Act to hold violators of those rights accountable.” -@SenatorShaheen
