And the bad news - got the debrief on the status of our 500+ Acropora cervicornis outplants in the Dry Tortugas. They are all dead or nearly dead. One of the best acroporid sites coral cover wise along the Florida Keys reef tract is now a wasteland. There are no words.

Tips for success in #academia:
* Don't aim for perfect. Or good. Or accurate. Just publish
* Don't do what you think matters, do what gets funded
* Don't be interdisciplinary
* Don't criticise anyone's work, even if it's baaad
* Don't be a woman, or black, or (worst of all) both

Have you ever seen a Purple-eyed Goby (Bryaninops natans)? This small (less than an inch long!) goby is known for its eye-catching bright pink to purple eyes and are associated with Acropora corals. I photographed this individual in Apo Reef Natural Park, Philippines.

Puns are necessary. It's either I try and laugh or literally cry.

I thought damselfishes (w/c includes anemonefish like Nemo) were exclusively marine fishes until I read about this goober: Neopomacentrus aquadulcis, that only freshwater damselfish species that inhabits lower stretches of rivers in Papua New Guinea 🤯
