I have two masters degrees from top British unis, including one that won a prestigious award. I’ve lived here for years.
My visa is up in two years and I won’t qualify under these rules.
I feel sick to my stomach right now. After everything I’ve done, it’s still not enough.

We’re increasing the minimum earnings threshold for skilled workers by 48% to £38,700, encouraging businesses to look to British talent first and invest in their workforce.

"We live with the insecurities which allow the university to maintain its financial flexibility – the least the university can do is pay us on time when we do our job."
Precarious staff @GoldsmithsUoL have had enough.
116 members of casualised workers @GoldsmithsUoL have sent the following statement to management.
They demand:

Indefinite strike has been announced by @ucu, so you can 100% expect to see responses like in this thread.
Don't let ppl get away with it, call it out.
Ask yourself, have these ppl done anything to support casual staff, students and international workers in non-strike time?

TW: POLICE VIOLENCE
Today we were assaulted by campus police. Despite multiple pleas from students and opposition from several societies, yesterday we were informed that the zionist settler FoR UK event was taking place on campus at Scarman. (1/4)

Students in need or or wishing to accept their offer should 100% do so, but to be clear, if you have made a complaint you do not need to accept this offer now. It will be there for you later. (4/4)

College is emailing students to remind them of the deadline to accept their claim. Wording of said email doesn't mention complaints status, or that students will still be eligible for their award if their complaint is unsuccessful past the current deadline (1/4)

To our students 💕. First of all THANK YOU for your steadfast support and solidarity with us. @GoldsmithsSU has produced a brilliant source of information for you about what these strikes are all about: teapawt.net/GoldsmithsSU/status/15…
Here is some additional info from us. More to follow:

ALT What do workers want? Almost half of academic staff are precarious workers and many are reporting doing work without pay. Inflation is over 10% and bosses have imposed a real-terms pay cut on us with a pay rise of just 3% during a cost of living crisis. Our pensions have been decimated and many members will lose hundreds of thousands of pounds. The UK university sector generated record income of £41.1bn last year. VCs collectively earn an estimated £45m. The sector can more than afford to meet our demands.
🚨 Members of @GoldsmithsUCU will be taking strike action this month.

We're spoilt for choice! Biggest obscenity has to be #TaxiGate when "green warrior" @FCorner spent nearly £20k of College money on taxis in a space of 2 years. She then claimed her conscience was clear as she donates to eco charities 😂 teapawt.net/GoldsmithsUCU/status/1…

Unbelievable! @brisofa was issued a permanent contract in Oct ‘21, explicitly citing continuous service, and without good reason, @GoldsmithsUoL has revoked her permanency.
This is a compulsory redundancy and goes against the deal we just signed with @GoldsmithsUoL
