If you believe the government should have to get a warrant to read Americans’ communications, CALL YOUR SENATORS AND TELL THEM “NO SECTION 702 EXTENSION ON THE NDAA WITHOUT A CERTIFICATION CAP.” What does that mean? I’ll explain. 1/15

So now is the time for action. The procedural vote on the Section 702 extension will take place tomorrow. Retweet this, and then call your senators and tell them: “NO SECTION 702 EXTENSION WITHOUT A CERTIFICATION CAP.” @SenSchumer @LeaderMcConnell 14/15

.@ChadPergram please ask @SpeakerMcCarthy if he is willing to fully assert the constitutional authority of Congress to enforce its subpoenas by using inherent contempt. A speedy, modernized version based on heavy fines instead of arrest is available. bit.ly/2LunBZU
Replying to @ChadPergram
C) McCarthy: Well, the only way you'll be able to get information that way is to have the strength to be able to get the documents you need.

The classified documents retained by both Biden and Trump belong to the American people and their elected representatives—not to unelected bureaucrats. Congress clearly has the authority and the power to obtain copies of those documents. Act like it. Do your job.

Do something more than “demand.” Issue a subpoena. Use your inherent Constitutional authorities to enforce it. Congress should draw the line here in a bipartisan way and stand up to the Executive Branch for a change. abcnews.go.com/Politics/sena…

When @TheJusticeDept stiff arms Congress, it is stiff arming you, the American people. Regardless of your politics, you should want your constitutionally elected representatives to have access to information controlled by the unelected bureaucrats. youtube.com/watch?v=Gijs0wis…

I’m going to give my personal view: CONGRESSIONAL SUBPOENAS ARE MEANINGLESS BECAUSE WE CANNOT ENFORCE THEM. The GSA will simply ignore the subpoena and litigate, which takes years to resolve. We can fix this by passing House Rules change to authorize Inherent Contempt power.

Sponsored by @RepTedLieu, H.Res. 1029 would create a process whereby the House could directly penalize executive branch officials who defy congressional #Subpoenas. The resolution could be adopted in the next Rules Package. goodgovernmentnow.org/2020/1…

Yes. Absolutely essential for the House to be able to enforce its rules with inherent contempt powers @GoodGovNow @RepTedLieu – at Washington, DC
While this is good news, the fact that it literally takes **years** for Congress to enforce lawful subpoenas shows why it’s effectively a sham enforcement mechanism. This is why we need to pass the Rules change that allows the House to execute inherent contempt powers.

The repeated ignoring of congressional committees is why we need to pass our inherent contempt bill that would authorize up to $100,000 in fines for witnesses who ignore congressional subpoenas.
Letter from DoJ to Hse Judiciary Cmte Chairman Nadler. Says DoJ won’t provide witnesses to testify. Says Democratic members “use their allotted time to air grievances.” Says Dems “squandered its opportunity to conduct a meaningful oversight hearing with the Attorney General”

Reminder: Biden is not about to play the role of surrendering POTUS power back to Congress, nor will he decline to stretch executive authority if he can get away with it.
Biden reiterates his preference to convince all 50 governors to issue mask mandates, but is also considering an exec order, saying "our legal team thinks I can do that based upon the degree to which there's a crisis in those states and how bad things are for the country."

What should we do, you ask? We should subpoena the Postmaster immediately and afford him the opportunity to testify. If he won’t, you ask? The Sergeant at Arms can detain anyone found in contempt of Congress. We’ve abdicated too much, and this is too important and time sensitive.
