"I wish this thing worked differently" is becoming something people can actually fix themselves.
Someone just used AI to remove the ads from their parents' TV and build them a better interface.
Think about how many products we own that don't work the way we want.
The default experience is becoming a suggestion.
This crazy world where I'm reading a Jabez-Burns study from 1960 on a very particular aspect of roasting coffee, nerding out, to apply it to RoastRacc.
Not reinventing the wheel here but applying other industry knowledge and standards and ideas that to my knowledge have not been applied to coffee and the old JB study is a tiny part of that, but the main idea comes from Pasteurization standards.
I was watching a YouTube video on a tour of this local famous cheese factory and they mentioned how they pasteurize and I was like huh ok that makes sense I wonder if...
And building that now. But the main idea is applying a coffee development heat-equivalent dose as a target marker rather than time or temperature itself

Green coffee isn’t inherently risky for mycotoxins when dried and stored well. Heat + moisture fluctuations (common in shipping containers) are what allow mold. At origin with sealed bags, conditions stay calm and stable. Specialty practices + roasting provide extra margin. thegoodbeans.com/blogs/news/…
It's a brave new world out there folks

It’s a good day to celebrate with an exquisite cup of coffee. ✨
International Coffee Day. ☕️
Introducing RoastRacc: a browser-based roast monitor, logger, and profile player for the Mill City MCR-2D.
It logs every batch, draws the curve live, replays saved profiles, and watches with 100+ alarms. Full auto control, with full manual override always live. The panel stays in charge.
Free, open source (GPLv3), runs locally, no cloud, no account, your data remains sovereign. Demo mode included so you can try it without a roaster.
Independent project. Not affiliated with Mill City Roasters.

I find it very enjoyable when stuff just works, and I just had one of those moments right now. I got an online international order and packed it, DHL picked it up a few minutes before 4 pm. Give it 23 hours and I get an email from our customer saying the coffee had arrived. Genuinely cool how modern logistics work, when they work haha
We just did an ATV tour with @essalvatore to the Tamanique waterfalls. 10/10 recommended.
Brand new ATVs, mine had 63 kms on the odometer. Highly recommend Tunco Life if you want tours when in El Salvador.
👀 we planted some coffee trees outside the shop
These are baby trees but in a couple of years they'll be blooming and full of coffee beans
Starting today you can find a variety of MHW-3BOMBER products at GoodBeans including hand grinders, coffee scales, filters and drippers
It's $136 in store in El Salvador, but for those in the US that's grinder is $120 on Amazon plus tax and shipping and it's a really cool hand grinder. I've been playing with it and not only the build quality is very good, it's pleasing to use. Clicks nice. It can easily handle espresso. Good stuff, get it in the US if you're looking for a hand grinder with that budget.
To reflect a slight normalizing/lowering of shipping costs we've lowered the additional upcharge on the website. Prices are not at normal levels or within a few dollars of normal levels depending on each pack.

Coffee contains over 800 aroma compounds. Wine has around 200.
That is why a single cup can smell like chocolate, citrus, and toasted nuts at the same time.
Most of those aromas are created during roasting, in a chain of reactions called the Maillard reaction, the same chemistry that browns bread and sears steak. Heat rearranges sugars and amino acids into hundreds of new molecules.
So when you smell your coffee before you taste it, you are smelling chemistry that did not exist in the raw bean an hour earlier.
The weather has been so bone dry here that the 2026/27 crop will be severely affected. Expect higher prices across the board for all Central American coffees due to heavily reduced supply.
