I shut off the power to my home for 48 hours to test our emergency power plan.
I ran the house on backup power, managed essential loads, tested multiple recharge methods, and learned a few things along the way.

What belongs on the Mount Rushmore of Prepper Books?
I picked 4 based on historical influence, longevity, innovation, community impact, and cultural significance, not simply the “best” books today.

I'm speaking at the 2026 Resilient Living Summit this September, alongside 20+ preparedness, homesteading, and self-reliance educators.
My session, "The Urban Prepper Blueprint," breaks down a layered system for family emergency prep, what you carry, your home, your vehicle, offsite resources, evacuation, and how to figure out what to prep for next.
The whole Summit is FREE to attend (Sept 14-19), each presentation is available free for 48 hours after it goes live. Mine airs Monday, September 14.

Live in an apartment or condo? What’s your power outage plan when there’s no generator, no transfer switch, and the elevator may be down?
That’s what I tackle in today’s new video:

Emergency food keeps you alive. Comfort food helps things feel normal.
The community voted blueberry pancakes as the winner, so I added some long-term pancake preps to our pantry. 🥞🫐
What’s your emergency morale food?

Prepping isn't about buying more gear.
It's about rotating food, replacing batteries, updating plans, and doing the boring work that actually makes you prepared.
What's one preparedness task you've been putting off?

Which multitools deserve to be carved into the Mount Rushmore of EDC?
I ranked the 4 models that had the biggest historical impact on the industry, not just the best ones you can buy today.
Do you agree with my picks, or would you replace one? #EDC #multitool #preparedness

Nice deals going on over at @jasemedical right now. I just purchased a Jase Case of antibiotics. Check it out if you're in the market for preparedness medications: bit.ly/Jase-Medical-TUP
Most power outage plans assume you’ll stay home. But what if the grid is down and you have to evacuate?
In my latest video, I test the Jackery HomePower 2000 Plus V2 in a mock bug-out scenario and look at what you may still need to keep powered away from home. @jackeryinc youtu.be/axvmV55m4EE
Prime Day is coming and my wish list is already full of preps I've been waiting to pull the trigger on. Power banks. Bug out bag gear. Vehicle Dash Cams. A few things for my new baby's go bag. What's on YOUR Prime Day prep list this year? Drop it below. I'm always looking for stuff I missed.

Half of America is one major unexpected expense away from a personal emergency.
Financial preparedness is prepping. It's just not as fun to film and it doesn't get views on YouTube for content creators. It's still super important! Some good goals:
☐ 3-month emergency fund.
☐ Paid-off debt.
☐ No dependencies on a single income stream.

It's your word vs theirs. That's why one of the first preparedness items I wanted in my son's first vehicle was a dashcam. Here's a look at the Vantrue Nexus 4 Pro S. @VantrueOfficial youtu.be/48tz8Q2St5A?is=by7M…
Most people think a dehumidifier is just for damp basements. Here's what it actually does for your preps:
☐ Lowers indoor temp feel during summer heat; less AC needed
☐ Keeps stored food and gear from moisture damage
☐ Runs more efficiently than AC during a power outage on backup power
☐ Collects water you can filter and purify in a pinch
It's not a replacement for your water storage. But it's a passive backup most preppers overlook.

Can the new Jackery HomePower 3600 Pro Max keep you cool during a summer power outage?
I tested fans, portable AC, a dehumidifier, a DIY swamp cooler, and a DIY ice cooler air conditioner. I also demonstrate automatic backup power for selected home circuits using a standard manual transfer switch. cc: @jackeryinc

If your home loses power for 5 days this summer, what's your plan for food? Here's some quick tips:
- A chest freezer stays cool longer than an upright
- Don't open it! A full freezer holds temp 48hrs
- Know your 72hr eat-first priority order
- Have a camp stove backup, not just a grill
Power outages are the most common emergency. Prep accordingly.
