ICYMI: Thanks to the advocacy of GPSA and @GrainGrowersLtd, the State Government has postponed the introduction of new Workplace Exposure Limit (WEL) regulations for grain dust, methyl bromide and flour dust for at least 18 months following consultation with GPSA, @BungeAus and other industry stakeholders. The delays, along with the same delay to phosphine changes, will allow the industry to build evidence, develop practical guidance and establish how any revised limits can be implemented effectively. We’ve done an incredible amount of work behind the scenes with the State Government and Ministers, Safework SA, @GrainGrowersLtd , @BungeAus and other industry stakeholders to advocate for deferral of changes to Methylbromide, grain and flour (wheat dust). The key was explaining the unworkable practical elements which would have caused chaos at harvest. Thanks to our work advocacy, phosphine, methylbromide and grain and flour dust changes coming into effect on 1 Dec 2026 will have a minimum 18 month deferral as we gather data and on-farm/supply chain evidence.

GrainGrowers members vote in favour of constitutional change 🌾
GrainGrowers members have voted in favour of historic constitutional changes which will strengthen the organisation's ability to advocate on behalf of grain growers nationally.
The constitutional amendment, which passed at today’s Annual General Meeting, creates a pathway for State Farming Organisations (SFO) to apply for membership of GrainGrowers.
This will enable the SFOs to contribute to policy development through GrainGrowers’ National Policy Group, while maintaining GrainGrowers' grower-led and grower-governed structure.

BREAKING: Thanks to GPSA's efforts, the State Government has made the decision to delay the new phosphine regulations implementation timeframe by 18 months. GPSA CEO @BPerry0410 welcomed the delay saying: "This is an important outcome for South Australian grain producers. The extension protects the coming two harvests and creates the opportunity to work through the practicalities of these changes, while maintaining our focus on worker safety." GPSA was recently at the @MacKillopGroup Grain and Graze Field Day, chatting to local growers and looking at how projects are progressing in legume rotation, improving crop establishment, and barley in mixed farming systems.
Locusts have begun emerging and growers are reporting seeing them in their crops. GPSA and PIRSA encourages growers to continue to report especially as the eggs hatch, and hoppers emerge.
