Five rare-breed sheep have returned to Hampstead Heath as part of a conservation trial exploring how traditional grazing can restore biodiversity and help manage sensitive habitats.
Norfolk Horn and Oxford Down ewes, on loan from Mudchute City Farm, are grazing Anthill Meadow from 9 to 21 September, with staff and volunteers monitoring the animals throughout the trial.
The programme, which began in 2019, is also assessing whether livestock grazing can support wildlife-rich habitats while reducing reliance on machinery.

Feeling like the third member of the Court of Appeal who just says ‘I agree’ with my learned colleagues @MariaOLoan and @Conor__Fegan - but great day! If you weren’t there let us know and we might persuade @MariaOLoan to arrange an update!
Busy morning in @Tughans_News hosting our planning event. We were joined by @GregoryJonesQC and @Conor__Fegan. We had a great discussion around the implications of CG Fry, Finch, Glebe Homes, the changing policy landscape and some recent PAC decisions.
