Worried business owners on Melbourne Grove, East Dulwich, SE22 who've had access reduced and parking removed by Southwark #LabourLTNs with NO consultation

Dulwich Village is part of the timed restrictions inside the Dulwich LTN. We were told this would encourage cycling. These are the latest Southwark cycling figures. Traffic is up 15%, which means more pollution and more congestion on this road. #LTNfail

I am visiting businesses on Balham High Road to discuss the A24 Streetspace scheme. It is great to bring @TFL so they can listen to the views of the businesses affected.

Turney road closure will mean displacement onto busiest section of DV, Village Way, Pickwick etc. And of course there will be even more congestion on Croxted, Sth Circular. Poor scheme, harming more people than it helps. @AirCroxted @ChitchClaire @east_grove
Southwark's two initial design options and online survey (closing 30 October) for the permanent design in Dulwich Village are now available: consultations.southwark.gov.…

The Times reports on a Berlin study which has found traffic fumes significantly increase the risk of suffering a fatal heart attack.

Same in the Dulwich Village LTNs. Nearly all businesses oppose the system because they are losing customers.
Out speaking to shop keepers here in the LTN ….. LCC members are lying when they stated shops support it …..I spoke to a number of business owners and all are dead against it ….. don’t believe the lies from Better Streets and LCC …..

No need! TfL didn't crumble under the pressure Southwark tried to exert on them to not publish. drive.google.com/file/d/1VhH…

I wish I could say that’s a surprise. It’s a very British form of corruption. It shows how they’ve exploited Covid & abused emergency powers for their own gain. The absence of scrutiny through this whole sorry mess has shone a bright spotlight on the failings of local democracy.

Half Moon Lane has seen huge increases in HGV traffic since the LTNs were put in place. HGVs account for 18% of greenhouse gas emissions and 13% of NOx emissions for road transport in the UK according to the Dept for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy. @JudithKerrPS

How do pro-LTN supporters justify this on a road with three schools, playing fields, a nursery, a medical centre and *people's homes*? This is displacement, with no evaporation. This is increased pollution, not lowering carbon emissions. This is all to keep a few roads closed.

Dulwich Village now on a weekend. A congested and polluted road with lines of traffic from the junction of East Dulwich Grove all the way back to the roundabout in Dulwich Village. And yet the Labour candidates will tell you LTNs fight climate change and lower emissions...

How I wish, instead of pursuing disastrous& divisive LTNs which have have marginal benefit & cause significant harm, @southwarklabour had had a laser focus on improving transport, access & pavements for disabled people. @AgeSpeakDulwich
Most people can turn up at a station and hop on the next train. For me and millions of disabled people, if we haven’t pre-booked assistance, it can be impossible to travel. Here’s what happened when I attempted it just now:

There is literally no Southwark, non-TfL related strategy to reduce traffic where it's most acute & harmful. Despite 1 in 3 ppl living within 50m of a main rd. All Dulwich LTN boundary rds saw > traffic and/or congestion. @DulwichCleanAir @GroveReopen @east_grove @helenhayes_

We agree. @SouthwarkLabour have been appalling custodians of this community - both physically and mentally. They have not earned the right to represent us. #VoteThemAllOut2022
Dulwich Village Junction is shabby and neglected tonight. Bins overflowing with cafe rubbish, a filthy planter shunted out of place, fixings smashed, seat broken in half and it’s deserted. In five mins four bikes and one motorbike went through. All ignored the red light.

That is true, although when they do have schools on them, the deliberate decision to continue with a policy causing ongoing displacement becomes more morally unpalatable.

I thought I’d translate some LTN speak. When LTN advocates say LTNs reduce traffic what they mean is traffic is reduced on their streets. When they say LTNs make roads safer, they mean LTNs make their roads safer. There, that works, their claims seem to make more sense now.

Some facts behind this post: - Southwark data shows only *4* more cyclists per day using Melbourne Grove S since the LTN was introduced (June '20-June '21). That's just +3%. - No data from Sept '21 (🤔). - EDG, where 4000 kids go to school plus GP hub has seen traffic ⬆️ 25%.

Southwark's been forced to change the junction layout *again* following a fire engine that was unable to gain access last week. This is despite DV cllrs saying the layout was permanent. Could it be because of local elections next month...? xitter.cf/Southwark_News/status/…
#Dulwich residents have previously voted two to one in favour of scrapping the LTN junction. southwarknews.co.uk/news/cha…
