The project was initially focused on just mixed air traffic, but now includes ADS-B data, “so we now feed it every day, real time, what the airplanes are doing… we can see unstabilized approaches… long landings that create intersection risk, and we can identify, is that an actual user, an airline, that has maybe a training issue, is it a runway design issue, is it a taxiway design issue…”

Look at these numbers. AI summaries are fuelling a news holocaust.
No discussion of tech media can get past this basic traffic fact: in the AI world, Google and social no longer refer traffic, which means that the vast majority of readers just never find you in the first place. Analysis: growtika.com/blog/tech-media…

Indonesia ordered its largest nickel mine to reduce its ore output from 42 to 12 million tons. That correlates to *three times* the maximum production rate of The Metals Company's deepsea nickel mining projections. Nickel is in oversupply, not shortage. thedeepdive.ca/weda-bay-quot…

Before: "The freedom to carry a gun and keep government in check is so fundamental that we'll even accept regular school shootings as a consequence."
Now: "Possessing a gun makes you a threat and justifies law enforcement killing you." 🤔
If you approach law enforcement with a gun, there is a high likelihood they will be legally justified in shooting you.
Don’t do it!
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The U.S. Constitution (particularly the 2nd, 4th, and 14th amendments) prohibit officers from shooting citizens merely for possessing a weapon that is not an “imminent threat”. This was reaffirmed in Graham v Connor, which says force must be reasonable.

This speech *is* one for the history books. But that’s less a compliment, than a coda.
Carney has given us the words to mark the end of the ‘rules-based order’…by acknowledging it never really existed.
It was a collective illusion. That now is over.
Apparently there’s a guy on YouTube with hot air balloons swirling around his head. All that hot air, seems like a metaphor.

Very interesting. NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy just called armchair crash experts on YouTube and podcasts—along with AI generated content—a “dangerous” problem. “It’s very misleading to the public, dangerous, and not helpful.”

I was a bit sniffy about some of Carney’s new world order comments in Beijing recently, but his Davos speech is a ‘cometh the hour’ speech. And an important lesson for anyone that’s not the U.S. or China. Read the full transcript of Carney’s speech globalnews.ca/news/11620877/…

Happy to announce the completion of my marine R&D firm's (Caladan Oceanic) 2025 Satellite Derived Bathymetry project, done with TCarta and the Greenwater Foundation. 311,000 sq km of new seafloor was mapped and donated to GEBCO's Seabed 2030 project. That's the size of Italy.

Remember back in the day when OneWeb Gen 2 was going to be a platform for British industry, for sovereign PNT and all sorts of UK hosted payloads? What exactly did $0.5bn of UK taxpayers' money buy? Another of the great 🇬🇧 missed opportunities.
Airbus has been awarded a contract by @EutelsatGroup to build a further 340 low Earth orbit OneWeb satellites.
The satellites will be manufactured at Airbus Defence and Space’s Toulouse facility on a newly installed production line, with delivery from the end of 2026.
