Under apartheid, the NP used “Swart gevaar” to scare white voters.
Under majority rule, the ANC uses “They are bringing back apartheid” to scare black voters.
There was no swart gevaar back then; and no one wants to bring back any apartheid now.

The people most worried about ANC losing metros are beneficiaries of ANC corruption and lawless elements who’ve bridged electricity and have not been paying for water over the decades. Now that order and normalcy is returning, it looks like “oppression” to them.

A dramatic development is emerging from South Africa’s 2026 Local Government Elections, with the Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) appearing in third place in the latest national results snapshot, ahead of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
The biggest talking point is the VF Plus figure of 14.52%, placing it above the EFF, which is currently shown at 4.22%. The DA is leading with 40.96%, while the ANC is in second place with 28.59%.
However, these are early national figures displayed during live counting. They are not final results.
