Found it. 🔎 I went back through Cleveland-Cliffs’ own public statements and SEC filings, and they explicitly acknowledge the Canadian government undertakings, including employment commitments. This goes well beyond Ottawa’s announcement. Here’s what Cleveland-Cliffs itself put on the public record. 👇 1️⃣ July 15, 2024: Acquisition announcement “Stelco will maintain significant employment levels in Canada and Canadian representation on the management team.” Cliffs also committed to retaining Hamilton headquarters, continuing operations in Hamilton and Nanticoke, and making capital investments. This announcement was included as an exhibit to its SEC Form 8-K. clevelandcliffs.com/news/new… 2️⃣ October 8, 2024: Investor presentation filed with the SEC “ICA Undertakings support net benefit to Canada” “Commitments to maintain employment levels in Canada” Those were the company’s own words describing the acquisition’s path to closing. It explicitly acknowledged employment commitments connected to the Investment Canada Act review. sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/… 3️⃣ October 30, 2024: Ottawa’s approval statement 🇨🇦 “To continue to employ at least the same number of unionized employees and the vast majority of non-unionized employees” The government described a package of binding, five-year undertakings. These covered employment, collective agreements, pensions, headquarters, investment and environmental performance. canada.ca/en/innovation-scie… 4️⃣ 2024 annual report: Form 10-K, page 27 📄 “we may be unable to satisfy our operational, employment, environmental or other undertakings or commitments made to the Canadian government” In the SAME acquisition-risk section, Cliffs separately warned that U.S. tariffs could hurt Stelco’s business. That matters. The company acknowledged both the undertakings and the risk of tariffs. The passage does not state that one automatically cancels the other. clevelandcliffs.com/investor…

IMO 🤔 Am I missing the bigger picture here? Because it looks like the proposed Canada-EU "Associate Membership" might be a massive investment play. Europe pays to build high-tech factories and refineries on Canadian soil, and in return, Canada promises a guaranteed, safe supply of the clean energy and critical minerals Europe desperately needs. To be clear: It doesn't mean Canada is joining the EU, adopting the euro, or surrendering its sovereignty to Brussels. Why wouldn't this plan work with the U.S.? Because Washington wants Canadian resources to feed American factories. They don’t want to build up Canadian refining self-sufficiency. So, Canada is breaking out of America's shadow. Isn't this exactly what we have ultimately wanted? 🇨🇦🇪🇺

Canada’s potash exports actually increased 13% in value in 2025 compared with 2024, reaching $9 billion. And Saskatchewan’s provincial industrial carbon price has been paused since April 1, 2025. The federal industrial carbon-pricing system does not currently apply in the province either.

We sure dodged a bullet on this maroon... Does he even know that Sask potash producers don't pay carbon tax. Hey @AndrewScheer, it's time to start defending Canada against these American attacks! I miss the days where we had a strong leader of the Conservatives.

Honest question for Jamil Jivani and the rest of the Blame Canada crowd: Is Prime Minister Harper engaging in “an anti-American hissy fit” here? Or is this a patriotic Canadian statesman speaking truth to power?
Stephen Harper: "It is clear that the current U.S. administration views our level of economic integration as incompatible with our separate sovereignty. Thus, to maintain that sovereignty, we must pursue diminished reliance upon the United States."

Y2K was real. And fixed for $600 billion. The remedial work of millions of people around the world was so good that Y2K is falsely held up as an example of extreme scaremongering. Instead, it should be celebrated as one of the best ever examples of successful project execution.

Nope. To help you straighten this out, Trump came into power and leveled 232 sectoral tariffs on Canada in violation of USMCA that Trump negotiated and signed into law in his 1st term. All you're demonstrating is America doesn't honour agreements it signs.
So let me get this straight. Canada’s been actively discriminating against American producers for years, and rather than working with @POTUS to establish fair and free trade between Canada and the United States, their solution is to further discriminate against American workers and businesses? Canada should come to the table, negotiate with the United States, and strike a deal that treats Americans fairly rather than joining China in retaliating against the U.S. President Trump is right to use all available tools to pressure Canada to end its discrimination against U.S. products.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
USMCA (negotiated by Trump) provides duty-free treatment for most qualifying US-Canada trade. Canada's recent tariffs respond to US 50% tariffs on Canadian goods after bilateral talks collapsed; disputes involve dairy, alcohol and autos under ongoing USMCA review. congress.gov/crs-product/IF… canada.ca/en/department-…
