ALT "Jim was a good friend and a much-respected councillor. "I first met him in 1998 when he joined the Conservative Party and stood for the borough council in Harlow where he lived. He was re-elected to the borough council at each successive election until he stood down not long ago because he was moving to Scotland to be nearer family after a period of poor health. "He also served as a county councillor and was chairman of North Yorkshire County Council during the pandemic lockdown, having his term extended because of it. This followed a year as Mayor of the Borough of Harrogate. "By profession, Jim was an accountant and a very accomplished one too. His interests included the theatre being an occasional amateur actor as well as an active supporter. "I liked Jim enormously. A passionate individual, a proud father and grandfather, a dry wit and a powerful advocate for his community. He will be greatly missed." Councillor Richard Cooper Leader of Harrogate Borough Council

ALT "It was such a shock to learn of the sudden passing of Margaret. "It is hard to imagine the council without her unfailing cheerfulness. She was just the kind of person who lifted a room somehow. "I know too that she was admired and respected in the communities she represented - a real champion of the farming community. "The thoughts of all her colleagues are with her husband Mike and their family at this time." Councillor Richard Cooper, leader of Harrogate Borough Council
