Before Hollywood, I was living in a van in Hawaii and waiting tables at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. One day, the incredible Rae Dawn Chong walked into the restaurant, and naturally, I went up to her table and said, “Hey, you’re a movie star! What are you doing here?”
She asked if I could act, and I said, “Fuck yeah, put me in your movie!”
She asked for my phone number. The only problem was I didn’t have one. So I gave her my buddy Mike’s number instead. A couple days later, Mike casually mentions, “Oh, by the way, someone called you.” ARE YOU KIDDING ME, MIKE?!
I called her back, and sure enough, she was serious. I drove over to pick up the script, went back to Mike’s house, and read all 120 pages three times in a row. First script I’d ever read. My character's name was Devon, and I remember thinking, “Sweet! I could totally play a Devon!”
I showed up to the audition with every line and inflection mapped out in pencil. Rae told me I could act and offered me the part. I asked if we were shooting in Hawaii. Nope. Los Angeles.
I had about $60 to my name, a bag of clothes, and some rollerblades.
Then Rae told me they'd fly me out. And I remember thinking right then and there, my life just changed forever. I'm going to be an actor.
That little movie was Cursed Part 3, a low-budget horror comedy that opened the door to Hollywood for me.
I'll forever be grateful to Rae for taking a chance on a kid working at a shrimp restaurant. Everybody starts somewhere, and this is where it all began for me.

Freeze every illegal alien’s bank accounts. Seize their debit and credit cards. Place liens on any real estate they own. Give them 30 days to leave the country. If they go, the money gets wired to them. If they stay, they are locked out of the U.S. financial system entirely.
Fishback’s point is straightforward. The government already knows who is here illegally. Make it impossible for them to function financially and most will choose to leave on their own rather than live without access to banking, cards, or assets.
Cut off the money, the benefits, and the ability to maintain a bank account, and daily life becomes unsustainable. That pressure alone drives people out without needing door-to-door enforcement for every case.

• 1921 Koçgiri: Kurdish villages crushed
• 1925 Sheikh Said: leaders hanged, villages burned
• 1930 Zilan: thousands of Kurds slaughtered near Ağrı
• 1937-38 Dersim: Turkey's own records say 13,806 dead. Other estimates are much higher. Thousands were deported, and women and children were killed in caves with bombs and gas.
• 2011 Roboski: Turkish jets killed 34 Kurdish civilians, most of them young villagers
• 2015-16 Cizre: civilians burned alive in basements under curfew
🏚️ THE DISPLACEMENT
In the 1990s, more than 3,000 Kurdish villages were burned or emptied. Somewhere between several hundred thousand and over 1 million Kurds were forced from their homes. Thousands of "unsolved murders" were carried out by state death squads.
🌍 ATTACKING ALL 4 PARTS OF KURDISTAN
• Rojava: Afrin 2018, more than 130,000 Kurds displaced. Serê Kaniyê 2019. Politician Hevrin Khalaf was executed on the road by Turkish-backed militias.
• Başur: constant airstrikes and drone strikes on Shengal, Makhmour and Kurdish villages, with civilians and tourists killed.
🤐 KILLING A LANGUAGE
Kurdish was banned by law. Kurds were called "Mountain Turks." Even the letters Q, W and X were banned until 2013. Elected Kurdish mayors are still removed and replaced by state trustees.
🎵 KILLED FOR A SONG
In 2020, 20-year-old Barış Çakan was stabbed to death in Ankara. His family says it was because he was listening to Kurdish music.
From 1923 until today, the method has stayed the same: kill, displace, silence, deny.
