I've reached out to several teachers for interviews in the past couple of days who have said, "Oh yeah, I read The Bell Ringer," which is...not a bad feeling at all 😉 (And hey you can read it, too, subscribe at the link in my bio!)
Hey everyone! Back on the bird app to invite you to a special Bell Ringer book club. We will be reading @DavidEpstein's fascinating Inside the Box, and he will join readers in a virtual conversation about the cognitive science on constraints and schools! hollykorbey.substack.com/p/n…
Watch as VP of Policy @lizcohen12 joins @HKorbey and @ChadAldeman on the Bell Ringer podcast to react to and break down the new episodes of Sold a Story, an investigative podcast that takes on how kids learn and what makes good teaching effective.

Homework: the amount being set is rapidly reducing, while parents animosity to it is rapidly increasing.
Should teachers try and reverse the trend and save homework from vanishing?
Excellent piece from @HKorbey

Short clip from a fun conversation I had with @HKorbey for The Bell Ringer.
There are so many more efficient and effective tasks we can set for our students than just ‘complete the study guide and be ready for the test.’

It's as if the field has forgotten the evidence base for volume of reading as a driver of reading achievement.
From @HKorbey's latest:
How much time do students spend *actually* reading in class? Reading along together, independently, stories, articles, textbooks? The Bell Ringer is gathering data, leave your answers here: hollykorbey.substack.com/p/o…

AI is increasingly being adopted in classrooms, with some schools in the US even replacing teachers with AI tutors. But will artificial intelligence really transform education? @HKorbey investigates

Thanks to @alexanderrusso for having me and asking great questions about the national freakout/backlash over classroom tech. IMHO there need to be more stories looking at how students use apps for learning—10 minutes at the end of math? Main instruction? Are kids learning?

Great work by @HKorbey. Happy to be featured in it about the great work our school district is doing to move to a Science of Learning approach for mathematics, after the great progress our district made in literacy via our Science of Reading curriculum. hollykorbey.substack.com/p/w…

A growing number of schools are abandoning "productive struggle"—where kids try solving math problems before being taught how. Research shows this frustrates students and hinders learning. Instead, teachers should first show students how to solve problems, then give lots of practice, then tackle new challenges. When teacher Daniel Carr switched to this method, his students' passing rates jumped from 33% to 52%.
