i think bts becoming a global phenomenon had a huge impact on the k-pop industry

what's the biggest changes in the industry you've seen in those 8 years? positive or negative i guess, whatever stands out most
when i don’t have work, i rest while worrying about not having any work. you know what i mean? that’s the sad part of being a freelancer. because things aren’t consistent, the anxiety can be so overwhelming that taking a break doesn’t always feel good. honestly, i feel better when i’m working.
and when i do take a break, i really know how to rest. sometimes i’ll just lie in bed and do absolutely nothing. i’ll eat, sleep, and look for movies or music that might inspire me.

Are you “always working” even on vacation or do you have moments when you seriously don’t do anything
i think the most important thing is to surround yourself with good, healthy people.
when you’re going through a hard time, it’s your seniors and friends in the same industry who are there for you and give you advice. you have to stay humble and not get carried away by all the pleasure and attention that comes with this life.
it sounds simple, but it’s probably the most important thing. you have to learn how to read people and surround yourself with the right ones. once you become famous, a lot of strange people start coming into your life too.

What are the best things for someone starting out to know? Things to help survive and thrive as they gain popularity, and ways to stay sane while working so hard for the dream?
there’s almost none. if anything, i think the industry is actually becoming more supportive as k-pop gains popularity in the west. people in the industry know better than anyone that this is the right direction, and that it also makes sense from a business perspective. the world has changed a lot🏳️🌈
no, no one has ever treated me badly or felt like they could treat me however they wanted.
not long ago, i met an idol friend who i’ve always openly said i’m a fan of. he was the one who came up to me first, thanked me for supporting him, and we ended up becoming friends.
he was such an amazing person.. i love him

Has there been idols who have discriminated against you in private? We know how much idols benefit off of shipping and gay fanservice.
there are probably so many different opinions about k-pop, but from an artist’s perspective, at the end of the day, we work incredibly hard because we want to be loved by you guys. otherwise, there wouldn’t really be a reason for us to choose this industry in the first place

what do you wish people knew about the industry? whether it be fans or non-fans, people familiar with kpop or not
yeah, exactly. questions about who’s dating who are things i can’t really talk about, and honestly, they’re not that important to your lives anyway.
i think taking care of your stamina is also connected to your mental health. even if you can push yourself through something in the moment because you have to get it done, if you want to keep doing this long-term, regular exercise and practicing singing on a treadmill for as long as your actual performance seem to be pretty recommended in this industry. (although maybe that’s just for me lol?)
when it comes to skin, i honestly think genetics play a really big role. anyway, i consistently get treatments at the clinic i go to, and sunscreen and properly cleansing your skin are really important. honestly, i don’t have any special secret to my skincare. i think the only thing you can really do is invest some money into it.
my friends have professional coordinators who help them, and they really try to look their absolute best during their promotional periods. they’re so professional.

Dgaf about who's f*cking who, tell us the secret to endless stamina on stage and perfect skin!
i also believe that if i had done things better, i could have overcome even that discrimination. so rather than blaming everything on discrimination, i tend to see it as a reflection of where my own abilities fell short.
because of that, i think it’s more constructive for me to focus on the ways being a gay artist has actually been an advantage, and think more deeply about what people genuinely want to see from me.

How many times did you feel that the industry just wasn’t helping you but making you disheartened?
i used to see holland and myself as the same person, so for a long time, i naturally chased and pursued only the things that i thought were cool or meaningful.
in the end, i think i succeeded in creating the image i wanted for holland, but i also feel like i failed when it came to the business and financial side of things. so these days, i’m trying to practice separating my own soul from the character of “holland” a little more.
meditation and yoga have actually helped me a lot with that. they’ve given me some space to step back, look at myself from the outside, and understand what i really want beyond the image.
i’m still figuring it out, but i think learning where holland ends and where i begin is an important part of growing up as an artist. ♡

how is it going between being yourself and facing the public in an idol persona? is it easy to differentiate?
