If no one wants to hire juniors or mid-level anymore, how are we doing to have senior engineers in the future? Or, is this an implied admission that we will not need seniors in the future?

Security called me at 6:12 AM today. "Patch every PHP server immediately." I asked what happened. "Two critical vulnerabilities. Remote code execution. No authentication required." Cool. How many PHP servers do we have? According to inventory: 12 According to reality: Nobody knows. We found one running WordPress. Three running old internal tools. One under someone's desk. Two inside vendor appliances. A forgotten employee directory from 2016. And a server named: PHP-OLD-DO-NOT-TOUCH Naturally, that one runs payroll exports. Then we found a PHP 5.6 box. I asked who owned it. The documentation said: BRIAN. Brian left in 2019. We called Brian. He said: "Oh wow, that's still running?" Excellent. By 8 AM, leadership joined the incident call. CEO: "Can hackers actually get in?" Security: "Potentially yes." CEO: "Without a password?" Security: "Yes." CEO: "Then why do WE need passwords?" Not the lesson. Finance asked if we could wait until the weekend to patch because downtime affects revenue. Security explained that the alternative was letting strangers execute code on our servers. Finance asked for a cost comparison. At 9:17, someone suggested temporarily taking the vulnerable websites offline. Marketing refused. "Our campaign is live." So for the next hour, the company officially decided maintaining a landing page for 20% off webinar registration was more important than preventing remote server takeover. We finally patched everything we could find. Then our scanner discovered another PHP server. Hostname: TEMP-PHP-2014 Uptime: 4,512 days. Nobody knows what it does. Nobody owns it. Nobody can shut it down. But every time we block network access, the warehouse stops printing shipping labels. Security has classified it as critical infrastructure. It is running PHP 5.4. The vulnerability has existed longer than half our employees. The emergency patch took four hours. Finding out what PHP actually runs took eleven. The internet isn't held together with code. It's held together with servers everyone is afraid to turn off.

👀 Have you heard of this new experimental React MCP? Now officially documented here: react.dev/reference/dev-tool… Technically, it's not really an MCP ➡️ registers a group of tools to Chrome DevTools MCP

Proud of what we have built and excited for what we have already planned. I will shamelessly steal the mantra from old Facebook days. The journey is 1% done.
Three years ago, we started Restate because we felt that building reliable distributed applications was just too hard. We were solving the same problems around failures, recovery, and consistency again and again. Today, I'm excited to share that we've raised a $20M Series A led by Singular with participation from Redpoint Ventures and Capital One Ventures. The need for solutions like Durable Execution has only grown since we started. Today, the majority of new Restate use cases are AI agents: long-running processes, coordinating across many tools and APIs, that need to keep working correctly through all sorts of failures and interruptions, coordinate sub-agents, or schedule work. At the same time, our customers have pushed Restate into places that expanded our own view of what Durable Execution could become. Replit moved the execution of Replit Agent onto Restate. DOSS runs high volumes of enterprise workflows on Restate and Fortune 500 institutions are using Restate for complex transactional workflows. We think this is just the beginning and excited to build what we believe will be a fundamental pillar of all infrastructure in the future. Read more here: restate.dev/blog/announcing-…

Against Jev in Rock Paper Scissors, it felt like Psyho’s read of the Doom bot: greedy with no real planning loop the way an LLM reasons.
This release is some expert marketing. How many of you looked at this for 5 seconds and thought it can actually play doom out of the box? The input for Jev is text and contains full game state (monsters, items, positions) - there's no image/video input. This state dump is massively preprocessed as well in order to simplify decisions (each position is relative to player's current position and contains additional info like if the item is visible etc.). Problem of dodging projectiles and shooting in an empty room (when using full state dump) is absolutely trivial. You could probably hardcode an ok solution in 30-40 lines of code. What's even more bizarre is the second part that "shows off" navigation and exploration. It seems to me that the agent doesn't really do any planning here and has no capabilities of doing any meaningful pathfinding (unless it's embedded in a custom logic that converts high-level Jev decisions into actual low-level movement). I'm not even sure if it has access to the level geometry. Most probably, it just optimizes towards the nearest goal and, due to the level's simplicity, it's able to get to the exit in this tutorial level. Kind of like greedily following a trail of coins in a 3d platformer. Also, it was possible to generate 100 different tries and choose the best looking one. this whole project might be good, but the release is sketchy af

Jev is here. - how is different from an LLM? - how does it work under-the-hood? - what are some real life examples? - when should I use it? I answer all that below:
