Journalists are civilians under international humanitarian law.
Facilities and equipment utilized for reporting and disseminating news are also civilian structures.
They must be respected and protected.
Journalists are #NotATarget.
The Strengthening Media Resilience in Uganda Training has come to a close, in Mbale, but this is just the beginning.
The journalist that have been part of the training have been equipped with skills and knowledge on digital & physical safety, ethical journalism and much more.
As the country gears up for elections and the post election period, a resilient media is central to credible processes, public trust, and democratic accountability. Journalists who are safe, informed, and prepared are better positioned to report accurately, counter misinformation, and uphold ethical standards under pressure.

STRENGTHENING MEDIA RESILIENCE IN UGANDA AHEAD OF 2026 ELECTIONS WORKSHOP.
Yesterday’s sessions focused on ethical journalism, reporting within the law, and strengthening digital security on our devices. We also reflected on how technology has reshaped journalism, amplifying reach, increasing risk, and making safety, accuracy, and responsibility more essential than ever.
We have a full day of sessions ahead.

Digital spaces should empower journalists not expose them to danger. Yet many female reporters face online harassment and coordinated digital abuse that undermines their safety, mental well-being, and ability to report freely.
