Did you know? Nearly 1 in 4 women in the U.S. have experienced physical violence from an intimate partner during their lifetime.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, support survivors, and affirm that everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued in their relationships.
Domestic violence is not always physical. It can also involve emotional, verbal, sexual, or financial abuse. Recognizing the warning signs and knowing where to find support can make a difference.
If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, you are not alone. Confidential help is available 24/7 through the National Domestic Violence Hotline.

Thank You for Helping Us Fight the Flu!
On Tuesday, our team joined forces with community partners to help protect Hamilton County from the flu.
Across two vaccination sites—the JA Henry YMCA and our mobile health unit at the Samaritan Center—we administered more than 60 flu vaccines! Huge thanks to our dedicated staff, Medical Reserve Corps volunteers, community partners, and everyone who rolled up their sleeves. Your support helps us build a healthier community for all.
Why get a flu shot? Vaccination is one of the best ways to protect yourself and others from the flu. It can reduce your risk of getting sick and lessen the severity of symptoms and complications if you do get the flu.
Missed the event? No worries! Flu vaccines, including pediatric flu shots for our younger community members, are available at all Hamilton County Health Department locations.

Thank you to everyone who joined us last weekend for our 2ndannual Healing Through Art event! We are especially grateful to the talented artists who courageously shared their artwork and personal stories with our community. Your creativity, vulnerability, and strength remind us of art’s powerful ability to inspire healing, foster connection, and bring people together.
Couldn’t attend the event? You can still experience the artwork.
The pieces will remain on display at CommonSpirit Memorial Hospital through November 30 and are available for purchase. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Partnership for Families, Children and Adults or CommonSpirit, extending the artwork’s positive impact throughout our community.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this meaningful event possible!

Happy National Case Management Week!
This week, October 12–16, we proudly recognize the incredible case managers at the Hamilton County Health Department’s Homeless Health Care Clinic. Our case managers connect individuals experiencing homelessness with essential health care, resources, and support services. Through compassion, advocacy, and unwavering dedication, they help people overcome challenges and move toward healthier, more stable lives. Today, Hamilton County Health Department staff wore pink and blue to recognize Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.
Throughout October, we honor the precious lives lost too soon, stand with families affected by pregnancy and infant loss, and remind those who are grieving that they are not alone. By raising awareness and leading with compassion, we can help break the silence surrounding pregnancy and infant loss and foster a community where every story is heard, and every life is remembered. To every family carrying these losses in their hearts, please know we see you, support you, and remember with you.
Today is Global Handwashing Day!
Washing your hands with soap and water is one of the simplest, most effective ways to prevent germ spread and protect your health and those around you. Remember to scrub for at least 20 seconds, especially before eating and after using the restroom, coughing, or sneezing. Healthy habits start with you. Together, we can build a healthier community, one handwash at a time!
Every baby matters. Every loss deserves to be remembered.

Walking Our Way to Healthier Communities!
Last week, the Hamilton County Health Department celebrated Walk to School Day at Lookout Valley Elementary School. Students, families, and community partners came together for a fun-filled morning focused on physical activity, pedestrian safety, and healthy habits. Participants walked about 1.5 miles, received reflective armbands to help keep them safe while walking, and enjoyed jumping rope and other activities that kept everyone moving. Special thanks to the Chattanooga Police Department, Chattanooga Fire Department, Bike Walk Chattanooga, Lookout Valley Elementary staff, and all the families and volunteers who helped make this event possible!
Check out highlights from this wonderful morning of walking, learning, and staying active!

This year’s theme, “Stronger Together,“ reminds us that preventing rabies takes all of us. Rabies can be deadly to both people and animals, but it is preventable. Vaccinating pets, preventing bites, and knowing what to do after an exposure are important steps in protecting our families, animals, and community. Together, we can help prevent rabies and keep our community safe.
