A number of people have recently asked me about the late Jeffrey Archer. He was, by a mile, the rudest and most obnoxious person I have ever met. Ever! And I have met a few!
Having been given formal permission for my wife and late father in law to attend the interview at his luxurious penthouse, I was shocked at the tantrum he threw about their presence. He went on and on about it! I cancelled the interview immediately, commiserated with his staff, told him what I thought of his behaviour and we left. In shock!
In hindsight, and being as charitable as I can, perhaps he had just heard the news that he would do jail time for perjury. The news only officially broke months later.
On the same day we had interviewed legendary rugby commentator Bill McLaren. After an incredibly generous and insightful interview for which he insisted on coming to our hotel, he told us his daughter had just been diagnosed with terminal cancer! Not for a minute did he consider breaking his agreement to chat on air.
The best and the worst on the same day.
RIP to them both.

The BBC focusing on 'most-read' stories - which are no doubt being widely reported elsewhere - is the exact opposite of what a publicly-funded broadcaster should be doing.
Click-chasing, pure and simple.

Although BBC needs to cut costs, I can’t understand why they appointed a Director of Sport who has never worked in radio or TV production afaik and doesn’t look beyond online content Ian. Big mistake to alienate the existing audience in the hope of attracting a ‘new’ one.
Football used to be simple. 11 v 11. If it can’t be sustained as such, that only proves it has changed. And changed utterly, never mind what you-know-who has been trying to make of it. Indeed, as Yeats would have had it if he’d been speaking of football, it’s a terrible beauty.
Replying to @Happy_Lil_Treez
Well lots of people on here agreed with my point. Guess that makes a bit too young to understand ( you seem to like ageist posts ).

It was 25 years ago today that the great Brian Moore sadly passed away. He was one of the greatest commentators ever to grace our screens.
A few memories of the great man.
RIP Brian Moore

Death by a thousand cuts. Local radio programming, compared to what it was even a decade ago is a shadow of its former self. BBC's local club coverage, particularly BBC Norfolk continues to be standout. Let's hope they see sense here, it would be a monumental loss.
Goreham grounded?! BBC consider plans to axe Radio Norfolk away game coverage ift.tt/VZo7y4H
