Every child deserves to walk into a classroom equipped to learn and confident about their future.
At Connected Development (CODE), we are turning that belief into action. Through our partnership with HumanX and YALI Network Abuja, our Back-to-School Community Initiative in Abuja is supporting students with school supplies and encouraging them to keep learning and dreaming.
For us, this work goes beyond the items distributed. It is about supporting families, removing barriers to learning, and reminding children that their education matters.
Watch this NTA report for highlights from the initiative and voices from the school community.

If you work in Abuja and want REALLY good jollof rice with beef for as low as โฆ2,600 or masa with beef for โฆ2,000, please send a DM to @Anabitesandrefresh on Instagram or WhatsApp 07071254190. They have more on the menu too!
The idea is simple: working-class people deserve to eat good food without spending a huge chunk of their salaries on lunch every day. โค๏ธ

This week on #TheDevelopmentGap, we explore how the cost of commuting can affect a personโs ability to make a living.
Securing a job is an important step, but can the cost of getting there and back leave enough for food, rent, and other essentials?

Women and youth are the voting decides and until we truly understand our powers we will continue to be in the back seat. I am impressed by the turnouts of members of League of Women Voters of Nigeria.

Someone will see food for โฆ2,600 and feel itโs not good because itโs cheap. Itโs the same reason you buy food for โฆ13,000 in this same Abuja and end up in tears. Paying a high price for food in Abuja doesnโt mean it will taste nice.
Welcome to Class: Abuja 101.

"Fewer than 20 percent of public institutions have designated FOI desk officers, and only 91 of roughly 800 public institutions have complied with Nigeria's Freedom of Information Act."
In his latest piece for Connected Development, Abdulmalik Yahya writes on how a chance visit to a water board in Maiha exposed a deeper pattern: fifteen years after Nigeria's FOI Act was signed, the machinery meant to make it work is still missing.

You now have your PVC, but will you vote? ๐ณ๏ธ
Between getting on the voter register and showing up on election day, what gets in the way?
On Off The Record with CODE, our host, @IamNankpak, and journalist Collins Nnabuife discuss youth participation and how doubts about the electoral process can discourage citizens from voting.
What would help turn registration into participation: greater trust, clearer information, easier access, or stronger security?

Bola Ahmed Tinubu: The most consequential president, By Jibrin Ibrahim premiumtimesng.com/opinion/9โฆ
My message to the young civic actors and changemakers at #DareConference2026 was simple: โChange doesnโt happen in comfort.โ
Speaking on the topic โA People-Centered Democracy is Possible in Nigeria,โ I must admit that the realities of leading civic action in Nigeria back in 2012, when I championed the #SaveBagega campaign, are undoubtedly different from the realities of Nigeria today.
The #SaveBagega campaign followed the money, leveraged the power of media and ultimately saved over 1,500 children from dying of lead poisoning.
Despite current realities, one thing remains certain, ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ ๐ญ๐๐ฌ๐ญ ๐จ๐ ๐ฉ๐จ๐ฐ๐๐ซ ๐ข๐ง ๐๐ง๐ฒ ๐ฌ๐จ๐๐ข๐๐ญ๐ฒ ๐ฅ๐ข๐๐ฌ ๐ข๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐จ๐ ๐ข๐ญ๐ฌ ๐๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ณ๐๐ง๐ฌ, not in the hands of a few political elites.
As such, young people must take a keen interest in understanding the processes of governance, know the roles and responsibilities of different offices and tiers of government, and leverage the power of media to organize for change!
โA People Centered Democracy is Possible in Nigeriaโ but it wonโt happen in comfort. So ๐๐๐๐!
Kudos to @rotexonline and the team at @youthhubafrica for bringing young people together to spark these critical conversations, challenge the status quo, and co-create the blueprint for the Nigeria we all want to see.

Leadership training must translate into sustained participation in the decisions that shape our communities.
Our Founder, @HamzyCODE , reinforced this message as a guest speaker at the Social Innovation and Leadership Bootcamp (SILB Africa 5.0) in Asaba, Delta State. The 2026 edition, themed โThe Architects of Change,โ brought together young people from across Nigeria and other African countries to learn, connect and prepare for leadership responsibilities.
Reflecting on the Save Bagega story, Hamzy highlighted how citizen-led advocacy can draw attention to neglected communities and drive change. His reflections offered a practical lesson for delegates: meaningful leadership begins with recognising a problem, organising around it and staying engaged until action follows.
At Connected Development, we believe young people must have the knowledge, opportunities and support to influence public decisions. This conviction continues to guide our work with citizens and marginalised communities.
