Building leaders is possible, provided you provide difficulties and challenges, not comforts.
Comfort makes employees happy.
Challenges make employees leaders.
For years, I thought good leadership meant making life easy for my team.
Less pressure. More comfort. Easy targets.
I was wrong.
When you provide comforts:
- You get dependency.
- You get followers who look to you for every answer.
- You get people who panic when a problem comes.
When you provide difficulties and challenges:
- You get thinking.
- You get owners who find answers themselves.
- You get people who stay calm when a problem comes.
A leader is not built in a classroom. Or in AC cabins.
A leader is built on the shop floor.
In a difficult client meeting.
In a failed project.
In a tough decision where there is no right answer.
Your job as a CMD is not to remove stones from your people's path.
Your job is to show them how to walk on stones, and not get hurt.
Gold does not shine without fire.
Leaders do not rise without challenges.
So next time, don't ask — "How can I make it easy for them?"
Ask — "What difficult task can I give them today that will make them stronger tomorrow?"
Because companies with comforts have happy staff.
Companies with challenges have future leaders.
And in the long run, only the second type of company survives.
Are you providing your team comforts or challenges?

Everyone talks about ‘prompts’ in AI. I assume they are just AI-friendly questions.
And they are right. That's exactly what they are.
We made it sound so technical.
Prompt Engineering. Prompt Library. Master Prompts.
In reality, it's something we have been doing since childhood.
Asking better questions.
AI hasn't created a new skill. It has just exposed an old one we forgot.
In school, we were rewarded for having the right ANSWERS.
In the AI world, you are rewarded for asking the right QUESTIONS.
That's what a prompt is.
- A vague question gets you a vague answer. In life and in AI.
- A clear question gets you a clear answer. In life and in AI.
- A smart question gets you a smart answer. In life and in AI.
The quality of your prompt = The quality of your thinking.
The people who are winning with AI are not coders.
They are the people who know how to think clearly and ask precisely.
They know the context.
They know the objective.
They know what good looks like.
So they ask better.
Don't learn Prompt Engineering. Learn Question Engineering.
Because AI will not replace you.
But a person who asks better questions than you, with AI, definitely will.
What is the best prompt / question you have asked that changed your output?

We were grateful. We often said, “Touch Wood”.
Do you remember that generation?
Before the world became about manifestation, affirmation and flexing.
They were just grateful.
If business was good — Touch Wood.
If children were healthy — Touch Wood.
If the house was running peacefully — Touch Wood.
It was not superstition.
It was humility.
It was their way of saying:
"This is more than my effort. I am lucky to have it. May it stay."
No loud announcements.
No “I hustled hard for this”.
No need to prove to the world.
Just a quiet thank you to the universe, and a tap on the wood.
Today we have everything, but we have stopped saying Touch Wood.
We say “I made it happen.”
We have become so confident that we forgot to be grateful.
Maybe that’s why we feel more anxious even after achieving more.
That old Touch Wood had wisdom.
Stay grateful. Stay grounded. Don’t call out your happiness too loudly.
Some things grow better in quiet gratitude.
When was the last time you said “Touch Wood” and truly meant it?

Tolerating injustice is a criminal act in itself.
Not because you did it.
Because you watched it and did nothing.
We treat injustice like it only lives in courtrooms and headlines.
But most of it lives in meeting rooms.
In hiring decisions.
In "that’s just how we do things here."
In the jokes we laugh at.
In the feedback we don’t give.
Silence is endorsement.
Neutrality is a vote for the status quo.
Comfort is the currency we pay to keep injustice alive.
Leadership isn’t loud speeches.
Leadership is the moment you decide:
"This stops with me."
You don’t need to have all the answers.
You need to have a standard.
And the courage to hold it when it costs you something.
Adapt your methods.
Change your strategy.
But never adapt your values to fit the room.
Because the moment we tolerate it,
we become part of it.
So I’ll ask:
Where have you chosen to speak up when it was easier to stay quiet?
And where do you still need to?
Drop it below. These conversations are how standards get raised.

Is a weak ₹ good for India? It's a dangerous half-truth.
Every time the Rupee falls, I hear: "Great for exports, great for Make in India."
In theory, yes. In reality for India, no.
This textbook logic works for China and Vietnam. Not for us.
Textbook Says:
1. Weak Rupee = Our exports become cheap = More orders
2. Weak Rupee = Imports become expensive = Import substitution
Reality for Indian Manufacturing:
1. We Import to Export.
To make my heat exchanger, I import steel, copper, and consumables.
Rupee falls from 83 to 88 → My raw material cost jumps overnight.
My 5% export advantage is gone in my purchase bill itself.
India's biggest imports are non-negotiable: Crude Oil, Electronics, Machinery, Chemicals. You cannot substitute them with a weak Rupee.
2. We Don't Win Orders on 5% Cheaper Price.
No US buyer will choose my heat exchanger over a Chinese one just because it's 5% cheaper due to currency. He buys on Quality, Delivery, and TEMA Compliance.
For IT services, a weak Rupee helps. For manufacturing, it barely moves the needle.
3. Weak Rupee = Expensive India.
Weak Rupee → Costly Oil → Costly Transport → Costly Everything.
RBI raises interest rates. My working capital loan goes from 9% to 11%.
I gain a little on exports, but I lose heavily on my domestic market.
4. The J-Curve Trap.
For the first 6-12 months, our trade deficit actually WIDENS after Rupee falls. Imports get expensive on Day 1. Export orders take 6 months to come.
Short-term pain is guaranteed. Long-term gain is uncertain.
The Bottom Line:
A weak currency helps ONLY IF you have low import dependency and high-value exports.
India has the opposite.
For India, a STABLE Rupee at 83-85 is far more powerful than a WEAK Rupee at 88-90.
Stop cheering for a weak Rupee. Start hedging your imports and pricing your exports in USD.
What has been your experience as a manufacturer? Does a weak Rupee help you or hurt you?

The most dangerous phase in your career is not when you are failing.
It is when you have stopped questioning.
In my early days, I thought having all the answers meant I had grown.
Now I know, having no questions means I have stopped growing.
A person who has no questions:
- Has stopped being curious
- Has accepted everything as it is
- Has decided there is nothing more to learn
- Has become stagnant
Growth lives in questions.
Questions like:
Why is it done this way?
What if we tried it differently?
What am I missing?
How can this be better?
The day a team stops asking questions, it stops innovating.
The day a leader stops asking questions, he stops leading.
The day you stop asking questions, you stop evolving.
Stay curious enough to ask. Stay humble enough to not know.
Because answers make you knowledgeable.
But questions keep you alive.
Are you still asking?

Devil’s Advocate vs Negate: They Are Not The Same
Every strong team needs a Devil's Advocate.
His role is not to kill the idea. His role is to protect it.
A Devil's Advocate identifies all potential issues in a project and ensures they are addressed with corrective measures — before they become failures.
He asks: What can go wrong? What are we missing? How do we make this bulletproof?
A Negator does the opposite.
He doesn't question to improve. He questions to undermine.
His negativity is unchecked. It doesn't offer solutions, only doubts. It doesn't strengthen the purpose, it drains it.
Devil's Advocate = Critical thinking to serve the goal.
Negate = Negative thinking that sabotages the goal.
One makes the team stronger.
The other makes the team stop.
Don't confuse the two.
If you are playing Devil's Advocate, come with a problem AND a possible fix.
If you are just negating — you are not helping the project, you are hurting the people trying to build it.

“Life is Scriptless” is not the ending. It is a warning.
If you do not write your own life, the world will write it for you — and it will write it to consume you.
The bankers have their plan. And so does the entire chain.
They have a script ready for you. Safe. Predictable. Profitable — for them.
If you follow it, you will be busy. You will be compliant. You will be consumed.
The alternative is not chaos. It is authorship.
Let's get started with what the others haven't thought of.
The product they said has no market. The move that is not in the spreadsheet. The scene that breaks the formula.
That is what it means to write your own script.
And that power still derives from the mind that endures the grind.
Don't live the plan they wrote for you. Write the one they didn't see coming.
#LifeIsScriptless #HarryDon #Strategy #Mindset
A jack of all trades, master of none — but often better than a master of one.
Breadth is not the opposite of mastery. It is a different kind of competence.
Someone who has designed high-pressure equipment, run a factory floor, written and shot a film, and sat with a story until it felt true — carries a different judgment. The connections show up later. In how a sequence is planned. How a scene is cut. How a team is held together when the schedule slips.
The question is not “Are you a specialist or a generalist?”
It is: “Have the different trades talked to each other yet?”
In the age of AI, this matters more. AI has made the specialist premium cheaper. It can out-recall the codes, the correlations, the case law.
What it cannot do is decide which problem is worth solving, which constraint actually matters on the shop floor, and which two distant fields should be talking to each other.
We provide an example.
Supercritical high-pressure feedwater heater. In this case, the manufacturing sequence was crucial.
We learned this the hard way — having to cut open two heaters to correct an incorrect sequence used during construction. That correction proved that the first two were more effective than all three combined.
The third one did not need to be corrected. And if they ever wanted it corrected, it would not be at our expense.
This is an example of two things:
1. Manufacturing sequence is not a checklist. It is judgment. The kind you only get when the different trades have talked to each other.
2. Power derives from the mind that endures the grind.
AI can improve the tuning. But it cannot endure the grind for you. That part is still human.

Unscripted may be senseless to start with, but scripted is likely nonsense — because life is scriptless.
The threaded region is just a tiny portion at the beginning of the cylinder. And it was getting jammed and seized.
Root cause: bellmouthing.
Scripted engineering says: Double the thickness of the entire cylinder to counter it.
That would work. But it's nonsense cost-wise. Why double the entire cylinder for a problem in a 10% region?
Our innovation was different.
We didn't double the thickness of the entire cylinder. We just shrink-fitted that tiny portion with a ring.
Same strength where needed. Fraction of the cost. No jamming. No seizure.
This is what I mean by faith — giving the benefit of the doubt, first to yourself, then to others.
Fate indicated: This will bellmouth. This will fail.
We said: Let me give my own idea the benefit of the doubt before I follow the expensive script.
This is what Tema has always done and stands for. Managing first-time projects not by copying the script, but by saving sense — and cost — where it matters.
Fate may indicate. It need not dictate.

Adventure is the courage to move first.
To enter new markets. To bet on people. To try what hasn’t been done.
Prudence is the discipline to move right.
To check the data. To build margin. To keep the promises.
Alone, adventure burns out.
Alone, prudence stands still.
Together, they create leaders who can take bold steps and sleep at night.
Forewarned, you are forearmed.
Everything instinctive should be carried out with deliberation.
Bold enough to go. Wise enough to return.
That’s how you hold the world.
Where in your work are you being called to be more adventurous?
And where do you need to be more prudent?

“Drop it like a hot potato”
By all means.
Unless you warm the potato to make it hot, how will you drop it?
- You cannot drop what you never held.
- You cannot drop greed unless you have held money.
- You cannot drop power unless you have held authority and learned that true leadership is when you do not need to exercise your powers.
- You cannot practice detachment without attachment.
- You cannot practice meditation without first trying to make it an act.
Most leaders tell youth: Don't pick it up. It's hot.
Real leaders say: Pick it up. Feel the heat. Learn fast. Drop it faster.
AI will warm the potato faster for you.
Your practice will teach you when to drop it.
Count the burn. Not the figures in the bank.
Because the only balance sheet that matters isn't doctored.
#Leadership #GrowthMindset #Wisdom #HarryDon
When we can take nothing with us, why keep counting money? Count the moments you grew wiser instead, for wisdom is the only wealth that illuminates the soul.
Money is a powerful servant but a poor master.
If it merely sits in a bank account, it changes very little.
When it is invested with purpose, it builds businesses, creates employment, develops skills, and strengthens society.
We shouldn’t aspire to accumulate wealth for its own sake. We should aspire to multiply value.
Spend wisely.
Invest courageously.
Create opportunities.
Share knowledge.
Empower people.
The greatest return on investment is not measured in percentages—it’s measured in the number of lives uplifted, careers launched, innovations created, and families whose futures become brighter.
We leave this world with nothing material.
What remains is the wisdom we shared, the trust we earned, the institutions we built, and the opportunities we created for others.
Don’t hoard money. Put it to work.
Don’t count your wealth. Count the value you’ve created.
Because wisdom is the only wealth that illuminates the soul, and purposeful investment is the wealth that illuminates society.

The truest leader is the one who is learning to lead alongside others to earn while they learn.
Not the leader who has learned and now leads.
The leader who is still learning, and says: Let's learn to lead together.
Old model: I lead. You follow. I earn.
New model: We learn. We lead alongside. We earn together.
Earn trust before you earn money.
Earn respect before you earn title.
Earn growth before you count figures in the bank.
True leadership is when you do not need to exercise your powers.
Because you are not leading above. You are leading alongside.
Leadership like Meditation is not an act; it's a practice.
The balance sheet that matters only counts what we learned and earned together.

If you can manage irritation, you are in control.
Irritation is the early warning light.
Before anger. Before bad decisions. Before broken trust.
1. Irritation is not the problem. Reaction is.
The email that “came in late.”
The person who “doesn’t get it.”
The plan that changed again.
That’s friction. Normal.
What you do in the next 3 seconds decides if you lead or get led.
2. Managed irritation looks like this:
- Pause → Everything instinctive should be carried out with deliberation.
- Name it → “I’m irritated because expectations weren’t clear.”
- Choose it → Respond to the cause, not the symptom.
Unmanaged irritation looks like:
Snapping. Sarcasm. Shutting down. Rushing.
That’s being controlled.
3. Control the controllables
You can’t control the traffic. The delay. The mistake.
You can control:
Breath. Tone. Timeline. Next step.
Master those 4 and you master the room.
Forewarned, you are forearmed.
Irritation is a test.
Pass it and you keep your authority.
Fail it and you hand your authority to the moment.
What irritated you this week that you handled well?
And what’s one trigger you’re going to manage better next time?
Drop it. We learn control by studying the leaks.

In this Part 3 of my interview, I map how Tema India moved from a heat-exchanger specialist to a strategic partner for India’s toughest energy projects.

Petrochemical integration, offshore FPSOs and high-spec gas processing now demand precision, not just scale. Tema 2.0 delivered: 80%+ exports, six FPSO programmes at once, 150+ critical packages shipped early.
Nuclear is the other pillar. Tema built India’s first private heavy-water test facility for NPCIL/BARC and is executing nuclear-island and high-pressure equipment packages — the same discipline now powering our petrochemical and export push.

Meditation is not an act; it's a practice.
So is leadership.
So is richness.
So is growth.
An act is a performance. You do it once. You check the box.
A practice is who you become when no one is watching.
Most companies treat AI as an act.
Buy a tool. Run a pilot. Post about it.
Winning companies treat it as a practice.
Here is the Real Balance Sheet:
1. The Trap: The have-nots are happy. The haves want more and more. Without the want they're no more.
2. The Correction: When we can't take anything with us, why count money? Count the moments you became better than yourself.
3. The Audit: The balance sheet here is doctored, not the one with the Almighty.
4. The Leadership Test: True leadership is when you do not need to exercise your powers.
5. The Raw Material: The only precious raw material we have is youth. Don't mine it for output. Refine it for leadership.
6. The Definition: Rich is not someone who desires more, but someone who enjoys giving more instead of focusing on the figures in the bank account or money under the pillow.
7. The Discipline: Meditation is not an act; it's a practice. And practice cannot be doctored.
AI will automate the act.
It will never automate the practice.
Count growth, not greed.
Because the only balance sheet that matters isn't doctored.
What's one practice you counted this month that will never show up in your P&L, but will matter in 10 years?
