A Sri Lankan migrant who sued the taxpayer for £7million claiming he needed round-the-clock care has been seen go-karting, going to the gym and doing the school run, a High Court judge has said.
Vengadeswara Raw Gopalakrishnan has been found to have 'deliberately fabricated' claims that he was housebound after he suffered 'serious and long-term psychiatric injury' while detained in a detention centre between September 2013 and February 2014.
He had come to the UK in 2010 before overstaying his visa and unsuccessfully claiming asylum. Gopalakrishnan was granted indefinite leave to remain in 2023.
The migrant later sued the Home Office for more than £7million.
Why is our legal system so open to be made a fool of by foreign scammers and cheats?

🚨UPDATE: Secretary of State Sir Chris Bryant says the Sinn Féin delegation was late to today's meeting because they were holding a press conference.
👥He watched on as the delegation spoke to reporters ahead of the talks.
🚨👋NEW: 'I'm not kissing you...' - Greetings from the Secretary of State as party talks get underway at Hillsborough Castle
🎥🎤Chief Reporter @jamesgould23 has this report.
📍The Secretary of State is meeting Stormont parties at Hillsborough Castle today in another attempt to break the budget deadlock.
Seven months into the financial year, there's still no agreed budget.
The UK Government has offered an additional £525 million this year, but Executive parties insist a funding gap remains.
With public services under growing financial pressure, questions remain over whether the parties can reach an agreement.

How very kind of them to allow parcels going from one part of our own country to another part not to have to pay an extra levy!! Most people in NI have relatives in USA or Australia and Canada so will have to pay extra for any parcels coming from there What planet do the Dept of Economy civil servants live on ?

Regarding ILR, I stand by EVERYTHING I said. You don't need statistics to prove how many people leave the care sector or claim benefits once granted permanent residency….the point was, we shouldn’t even be given 1.9 million people who came here on 5 year working visas the OPTION. The country shouldn’t even take the risk if even 2% apply for benefits or leave the care sector.
Just because someone took the opportunity to work here, why must Britain grant them all settled status or citizenship? The sense of entitlement is astounding. They may have been promised it before, but things change based on the economy etc
Prevention is better than cure. We should not give hundreds of thousands of individuals the option to leave the very roles we desperately brought them in for, such as care work, nor provide access to welfare and social housing when public resources are already overstretched until the country is in a better position to accommodate that.
People may pretend not to understand because they are driven by emotion, but opening up welfare access to nearly two million low wage workers will inevitably lead to a portion of them claiming benefits or requesting social housing. Why wouldn’t they?
If people have been living in overcrowded conditions, with two or three families sharing a single property and are suddenly eligible for the housing element of Universal Credit to move into their own family home, of course they will take it.
Britain simply cannot afford to take that risk right now. It is that straightforward.

When Putin seized Crimea, both Europe and America were quite openly making calls, holding meetings, and sending signals to the Ukrainians who were in power at the time that there should be no escalation – let's just keep things friendly and leave things as they are for now. And we lost Crimea. After that, we lost part of Donbas. But the shooting in the east continued. There was no peace.
People think we were always helped. That is not true. Help started coming after the full-scale invasion, but that was after eight years of Russia occupying our territory. That is a long time to figure things out and understand that Putin has no intention of giving anything back to us.
At one point, some Europeans asked me: “Why do you think that if you withdraw from Donbas, he will go further?” And I answered: “Because at the beginning of the war, he wasn't seizing Donbas. He came to the capital. He seized parts of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, Kherson itself, and Kharkiv region.” We have retaken a lot of territory, but he had seized different parts of our country. And now they want us to give them something because they are unable to seize it. We may have a smaller territory, less money, and fewer weapons, but we still have more dignity than many others. We will do everything we can to end this war, but it must end in a way that preserves our dignity.
