Clark and Irv should be here to witness this celebration. Both of them played such important roles in Jay’s early career. I can argue that the man mostly responsible for Shawn Carter becoming Jay-Z is DJ Clark Kent. Clark believed in Jay when no one else did. He begged Jay to stop hustling and focus on music. He dedicated his time and energy to pushing Jay’s music to anyone who would listen. He’s the man who introduced Jay and Dame to each other, which ultimately led to them starting Roc-A-Fella Records. Rest in peace to both, Irving “Irv Gotti” Lorenzo and Rodolfo “DJ Clark Kent” Franklin II.
