Walmart once promised a truck driver $100,000 if he stuck around for 20 years. He stuck around. He retired with $707,000. Sam Walton offered that same deal to everyone, including a lady named Gayle who started at the Owensboro store around 1981. Back then Walmart automatically dropped up to 4% of your pay into profit sharing. You put in nothing. The company funded all of it, mostly in Walmart stock, and the stock went up for 40 straight years. Cashiers and shelf stockers from that era retired with six and seven figures. As late as 2008 Walmart was still putting $724 million a year into retirement money for 839,000 hourly workers. Then in February 2011, Walmart killed it. The free money became a 401k match, which only pays if a worker making $11 an hour can spare 6% of her own check. Most can't. The savings went to quarterly store bonuses instead. So Gayle worked about 30 years under Sam's deal and 14 under the replacement. Here's the part nobody in the comments will guess. If she was enrolled early, those first three decades of stock may have quietly done more for her retirement than any party ever could. A greeter in a blue vest can be sitting on more money than her store manager. Everyone's mad about the flowers. The thing worth being mad about happened in 2011, and nobody took a photo of that.
Employee Gayle is going viral for being honored with just flowers at her retirement after working 44 years at Walmart.

Checking the list of everyone I follow on Twitch, and it’s really sad how many creators randomly stopped streaming and seemingly vanished off the face of the earth. If you enjoy someone’s content, please support them and motivate them to keep going, it’s rough out here ❤️

Mark Shapiro says the #BlueJays will send a contingency to Japan this offseason and he may travel there, too, as they look to expand their presence (both baseball and business). He added that the Japanese market will obviously be something they explore again this winter.

Somebody needs to tell Blockbuster that nostalgia is basically a business model right now. Bring back the video store experience with physical rentals, snacks and that whole 2000s atmosphere, and people would probably line up just for the experience

I DID THE MATH ON MY PAYCHECK AND NOW I’M PISSED. I MAKE $74,000 A YEAR. After taxes, retirement contributions and health insurance, I take home about $4,300 a month. Rent, car payment, insurance and minimum debt payments eat $3,450. That leaves me with $850 a month. For a college graduate with a full-time job. And that $850 still has to cover groceries, gas, utilities, emergencies, anything fun, and whatever unexpected bill shows up next. I did everything they told me to do. Get the degree. Get the full time job. Save for retirement. Have health insurance. Pay your debts. I followed the plan. THE MATH STILL DOESN’T WORK.

My favourite thing about kevin gausman is that he gave $500K to charity before he left toronto because he didnt want his on-field skills to be what he was remembered for. He managed to top being an excellent ballplayer by being an exceptional person. I miss him in toronto.
Kevin Gausman exited tonight's game after applying a tag in the 6th inning.

Companies will require a bachelor's degree for jobs that paid $40k in 1995 and still pay $40k in 2026. The credentialing is a class gate. The degree didn't add value, it added debt. Gatekeeping is the goal.

It's still blowing my mind that Kawhi came back, forced his way here, took less money twice to stay long term, and is set on retiring in Toronto. His return is even more inexplicable than his departure in the first place.

In sickness and in health. ❤️ Three years into their marriage, Michael J. Fox got news that can shake a person — and a marriage — to the foundation. He was 29. Early-onset Parkinson’s. When he told Tracy Pollan, she didn’t flinch. She reminded him of the vow they had already made: in sickness and in health. Those weren’t just wedding-day words. They became the life they lived. Michael kept the diagnosis private for seven years. He kept working. He fought battles most people never saw. When he went public in 1998, Tracy was still right there. On September 14, 2026, he received the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at the Emmy Awards for decades of Parkinson’s research and advocacy. Tracy was there again — not as a celebrity plus-one, but as his wife. Nearly four decades. Four children. Fame, hard years, sobriety, uncertainty, and a disease that changed everything — except this: he never had to face it alone. It’s easy to promise “for better or worse” when everything is better. The vow means something when the worse arrives and you still choose each other. This isn’t just a Hollywood love story. It’s a story about commitment. Love starts a marriage. Commitment keeps it standing. ❤️
