So I booked a ₹900 doctor video consultation for my uncle. The doctor wasn’t available on video, so I cancelled and emailed for a refund as they instructed. Then… nothing for almost a month. Emails, calls, follow-ups, different people, the hospital manager promises of “2 days”… still nothing. Finally I called customer support again, this time clearly frustrated and i was very angry. The lady processed the refund the same day which was yesterday. I genuinely want to thank her. But that made me wonder , if it could be solved in one day, why did I have to chase it for a month? Had I simply given up, ₹900 was gone. Why do so many customer-service systems make polite customers follow up again and again, until they finally get angry?

So I needed a small pressure cooker while staying in Vellore for a few days. Checked online first, but couldn’t get quick delivery. Then went to the local market. Random-brand 1–2L cookers were already around ₹800, so I kept looking. Found this Prestige 2L for ₹1,150. Surprisingly, it was cheaper than what I was seeing online , and the shop accepted card too, so I got the card benefit on top 1% off . This made me realise how automatically we assume online = cheapest now. Do you still compare prices with local shops before ordering online, or have we completely stopped checking?

Stayed at a lodge in Vellore for a few days. So our Final bill was : ₹7,500. Took out my credit card thinking at least I’ll get some cashback. “But Cash only.” No card. No UPI. In a country where even roadside vendors accept ₹10 on UPI, having to arrange ₹7,500 in cash genuinely surprised me. Is there a practical reason some hotels/lodges still prefer cash only payments in 2026?

Checked the weather this morning and had to look twice. Bengaluru: 21°C Shillong: 21°C One is a hill station in Meghalaya. The other one is big city Bengaluru. And people still ask why Bengaluru folks never stop talking about the weather 😌

So I have passed this house in Bengaluru a few times and almost always slow down to look at it. Apparently I’m not the only one , I’ve seen random people stop here just to take pictures. The all-dark exterior, curved balcony, unusual roof… it definitely stands out. Some people say this is one of the most beautiful houses in Bengaluru. I’m not sure 😄 But I’m curious , have you seen a Bengaluru house that looks better than this? Quote it with a photo if you have one. I want to see what wins.

Most people would probably avoid this cucumber. An uncle I know does the exact opposite. Whenever he buys fruits or vegetables, he deliberately looks for the slightly odd-shaped ones or the ones with insect marks. His logic: “If insects were able to eat it, maybe it was sprayed less.” I always found that strangely convincing though 😄 But today I started wondering whether there’s actually any truth to it. Does insect damage/ugly shape tell us anything about how much pesticide was used, or is this just one of those convincing-looking theories we’ve created? Dear Farmers , agriculture people .. is his logic completely wrong or partly right?

Picked this up casually at an airport shop because I liked the design. Then I turned it around. ₹1,099 for one hair clutcher. 😭 Put it back very carefully. Airport shopping always makes me wonder who is casually buying everyday things at these prices. Food and water I understand , sometimes you have no option. But ₹1,099 hair clips? What’s the most expensive ordinary thing you’ve ever bought at an airport because you had no other option?

Finally visited Sri Lakshmi Narayani Golden Temple in Vellore , Tamil Nadu and one suggestion if you’re planning to go: Try reaching around 5–5:30 PM. You start the Darshan walking through the star-shaped path while it’s still daylight, keep getting glimpses of the Golden Temple as you move closer, and by evening the whole place starts lighting up That first proper view honestly felt unreal , for a moment it looked like one of those places we imagine when we think of where Gods would live. We took the ₹150 Swarna Lakshmi seva. After the main darshan, you can personally offer theertham to the 70 kg solid-gold Sri Swarna Lakshmi idol. A few things I wish I knew before going: • Phones are strictly not allowed , there are multiple checks, so deposit them before entering. • Bags and footwear can be kept safely near the entrance for a small charge. • Be prepared to walk a lot , the star-path journey itself is part of the experience. Wheelchair people also can have the Darshan • After darshan there are prasadam/souvenir counters and Sri Srinivasa Perumal darshan too. • From Vellore city/CMC side, we got an auto for roughly ₹150–200. More than the gold, I actually liked how peacefully and systematically the entire darshan was organised. One of those places where the journey to the temple becomes part of the darshan itself.

Was craving biryani in Vellore and Google led me to this restaurant near the old bus stand name is Amma Resturant. By the time we reached, mutton biryani was already over … so tried the chicken one for ₹170. And this tasted very different from the Hyderabadi biryani I’m used to. Less spicy, the rice itself was different, and somehow much lighter , but still really flavourful. One plate was more than enough for me. I am not sure about the rice… Tamil Nadu people .. what would you actually call this style of biryani? Is this Ambur style?

Long-term investing plays strange games with my head actually. I have held one stock for around 2 years. In fact about a month ago I was sitting at roughly 35% profit on this one. Now that profit has fallen sharply. I’m still in profit… yet somehow it feels like I’ve lost money because my brain is still anchored to that 35%. Genuine question for long-term investors: Do you ever book profits at a fixed return like 20%, 30%, 40% etc or do you completely ignore the % and sell only when the business or valuation changes? Trying to understand how experienced investors think about this.

2:51 AM on an overnight bus to Bengaluru. We were almost at Majestic when a man suddenly came down from the upper berth and asked the driver Anna , “Hosur came?” Driver Anna : Crossed long back… we announced. He had slept through it. Had to get down there and find another bus back towards Hosur. Watching this made me wonder .. why don’t bus booking apps have a “wake me before my stop” feature? 🤔 They already know the drop point we booked and the bus location. Just give me a loud alert 10–15 minutes before my stop. Sleeper buses are made so we can sleep. Missing your stop shouldn’t be the price of actually sleeping.

The bus was at least 1:50 hours ahead from the scheduled time shown in the app. Generally people opt of AC sleeper bus with high prices because they want comfortable sleep while travelling overnight 😌

Have eaten dosa in Vellore for the last few days and I keep noticing something. The dosa is still crisp, but not as crunchy as the masala dosas I’m used to in Bengaluru. And the sambar feels completely different too , lighter in colour, less tangy, more dal-forward. I have noticed the same thing at 2–3 places now, so I’m curious: Is this actually a Tamil Nadu vs Karnataka style difference, especially in the batter and sambar? Or am I just noticing restaurant to restaurant or city to city variation? I like both, but Bengaluru-style crisp dosa still wins for me 😄

Someone known to me is around 73, diabetic, and has been dealing with protein leakage in urine for quite some time. He is under treatment with doctors including a kidney specialist, and he has improved. But because it hasn’t completely stopped, he stays worried all the time. What worries me more is that he has now become scared of food too. He has stopped eating fruits and many vegetables like green leafy vegetables , some restrictions were advised, some he has added himself out of fear. I’m not looking for medicine suggestions from X. I just want to hear from people who have seen something similar in an elderly diabetic parent/relative: Did the protein leakage reduce significantly with proper treatment and time? And if you know a good nephrologist who has successfully managed similar elderly diabetic kidney cases, please mention the doctor + city/hospital. Sometimes one real experience from another family can give an older person a lot of hope.

I knew withdrawing cash using a credit card was expensive, but I didn’t realise the difference was THIS big. Take ₹10,000 Use your credit card for a normal ₹10,000 purchase and pay the full bill on time → ₹10,000 repaid. Usually ₹0 interest. Withdraw the same ₹10,000 from an ATM using an SBI credit card and repay it just 15 days later: ₹500 withdrawal fee ~₹185 interest from Day 1 ~₹123 GST Total: ~₹10,808 Almost ₹800 extra for borrowing ₹10,000 for only 15 days. I understand cash withdrawal is meant for emergencies, but if someone repays the entire amount within the same billing cycle, shouldn’t there at least be a short grace period?

We usually look for the biggest Durga Puja pandals , the best decoration, biggest idol, most beautiful theme. But today, in a town in Tamil Nadu, I found Durga Puja happening in someone’s home. No huge pandal. No massive crowd. I could quietly take anjali, light a diya and sit there for a while. And somehow it felt more special than visiting a big pandal. Maybe because when you are somewhere you never expected to find it, even a small puja can suddenly feel like the biggest and best ❤️

Every time I enter an underpass like this, my brain suddenly goes into survival mode. What if it starts raining heavily right now and this fills with flood water before we get out? Nothing is actually happening… but for those 20 seconds my brain has already imagined the whole disaster. Then we come out and I’m completely normal again. Please tell me I’m not the only one whose brain does this.
