What an honor to host @SteveHiltonx on @HighSpiritsPod! We found him to be a truly genuine, independent thinker, and very refreshing perspective on adding balance to Sacramento and our relationship with DC. What do you think?

“It would be intellectually dishonest to suggest that the California market is thriving.”
@anandastrategy doesn’t sugarcoat it. California cannabis sales peaked in 2021 at just over $5 billion and have fallen for five straight years, to roughly $4 billion today.
The per capita comparison is even more striking. If California matched Montana’s sales per capita, it would be a $14 billion market. At Michigan’s rate, it would be $13 billion. Meanwhile, the illicit market still dwarfs the legal one.

Smart Approaches to Marijuana has now deleted this post.
It appears that they are now funding ads in MA based on the same flawed interpretation of the study that CEO Kevin Sabet tweeted.
There’s only so much we as journalists can do to combat this misinformation and deliver higher quality information to voters.

I'm blocked by both SAM and Kevin himself, but here's what I would say if I could respond to the personal insults their team continues to levy at me.
Media coverage is supposed to be rigorous, exhaustive, and scrutinizing. Especially when organizations pour millions of out-of-state money, without disclosing donors, into campaigns that deliberately mislead voters and attempt to overturn the will of the people.
Also, nowhere in Kevin's tweet did he say that — and it's a core component of the study, right in the abstract.
If Kevin would like to talk about education, why don't we discuss how his Phd in qualitative social policy has next to nothing to do with interpreting statistical evidence in these papers.
Maybe that's why they get things so wrong?

A pro cannabis super PAC spent $1.4M on ads supporting vulnerable House Republicans who voted to delay the hemp ban.
The PAC, backed by Curaleaf, Trulieve and Verano and others, raised $13 million in 20 days and shares a treasurer with MAGA Inc.
