Gutted by the loss of a lovely friend and WRN colleague but Claire was so much more than that. She taught me so much, challenged my thinking and left me completely in awe that one woman could be so accomplished. A quick mind, a brilliant writer, a tech genius, biker chick, baker, gardener, knitter and of course wife, mum, sister and aunty. Feeling bereft but also so, so lucky to have known her. Sleep well you gorgeous woman 💔💔💔
ANNOUNCEMENT It’s with heavy hearts that WRN announce the death of one of our own, the truly fabulous Claire Loneragan. Claire was a fundamental part of WRN since its inception and had been key to the growth and the success of our organisation. She is irreplaceable as a WRNer and as a Director. Most importantly though, as a dear friend. We will miss her immensely. We know that all our WRN members will feel her loss deeply, not least her ‘home’ group of Somerset and Dorset. We send our sincere heartfelt sympathies to her husband Dave, her children, her wider family, and her many friends. Claire had been ill for some time but maintained her typical good humour, courage (and not a small amount of ice cream) throughout. When we have needed wisdom, hard work and application, Claire had provided these in abundance. Her hand was in everything that we did. And we all endeavoured to ‘Be More Claire’ as a result. But more importantly than that, she was always our dear friend. Goodbye Claire. We love you so much xx

Please take note: Of the two Irish authors who can't get their books into UK bookshops, I'm the one who supports feminists, not rapist Islamists.

Excellent rebuttal letter. It is singularly depressing to see a Minister either deliberately lying to the public or being too stupid to understand the legal ramifications of a bill she is pushing though.
1/ We’ve written to the Secretary of State for Equalities concerning misinformation that appeared in an article she wrote over the weekend. It’s important that the debate around the draft conversion bill is accurate and the Minister should promote this. gaymensnetwork.co.uk/letters

🚨226 children, some as young as 11 years old, are about to be given £500 worth of shopping vouchers by the UK Government in order to undertake a puberty blockers trial, placing them on a pathway to infertility. This is the medical scandal of our time. jamesesses.co.uk/p/state-san…

What I love about this is that it is a near perfect example of a 'difficult management conversation' - the kind of thing that used to be role played on countless training courses at the Civil Service College before they closed it in favour of on-line learning. Nature is healing.
Not sure which part of the civil service but it looks like a manager somewhere is doing their job properly. Finally!

I posted this earlier and the bloated individual who said that "it's just a building, people matter more," locked down his replies shortly afterward. Here is what I have to say and I mean every word. I mean it with an internal violence of emotion and historical backing. It isn't about the building. It's what the building represents. You say that it's about people? So is history. History is made by people. It is meant to linger. It should stand as something that lasts. A living legacy made before to help us understand where we are now. To see how far we come. Pages get lost. People turn to dust. Building and art are meant to last. They were made by human hands. I am so tired of being lectured by pseudo intellectuals who think that history has no place in modern society unless they get to rewrite it. Those buildings matter more than the invaders sent to destroy them. Not only does Western civilization deserve to survive, but all this stands as a point of historical merit. Invaders ransack and destroy cities to erase what came before. You dont see it as important, because you are lucky enough to remember. What about generations from now? A scruffy young man who wants freedom searching for anything to give him hope? Anything that isn't muddled by the travesty that you want to usher in? It will all be forgotten then. Silly, petulant, loathsome people say that buildings are more important than people. In some cases, yes. But my question is: would you do this? Would you traipse into someone's home and destroy what they hold dear? And if you wouldn't, what does that say about the people who do? And if they would do all this to buildings to prove a point? What would they do to you? History already knows the answer, but you seek to abolish it for future generations.

Please explain Mathew? I’m an NHS nurse and would like to get changed before/after a shift, alongside teenage, pregnant, and near retirement women knowing that a man will not enter the space. I’d like to care for confused female patients, and not have to ask them to lower their voice if they’re upset by a man in the next bed. I don’t want to tell parents who have a male carer knock on their door, to provide intimate care to their non-verbal daughter that they need to pipe down, or be accused of bigotry. Exactly why am I wrong in wanting that for colleagues, patients and families?

In exactly the same way middle aged women exist in an exciting Shroedinger's binary - simulteneously a dribbling senile minority that no one listens to and also a massive dangerous force of Far Right funded effectiveness.

It's interesting how the estimated numbers fluctuate depending on the point TRAs want to make. Something needs changing in their favour: there are LOADS of them. Women get single sex spaces back: there are so few they wouldn't make a difference/be noticeable if allowed in.

“WHY?” It is very heartbreaking to read this handwriting letter. That was the last question 25-year-old Majid Nikandish asked the night before the Islamic Republic executed him: “Tonight, I feel like a little child terrified of an injection. Only one question is on my mind: Why?” We, the people of Iran, are living in horror. Every day, another execution. Another mother destroyed. Another life stolen. In his final letter he asked his mother to smile at his funeral. “I, Majid Nikandish, leave the few belongings I have in prison as keepsakes for my family. Hello, my dear Mom. I know you have had a very difficult life. I’m sorry if I wasn’t a good son. Please forgive me. Please don’t be sad. Stay strong, and please be happy at my funeral. Take care of Mahnaz, Abolfazl, and Razieh. Tonight, I feel like a little child who is afraid of getting an injection. There is only one question left in my mind: WHY? To my sisters, Mahnaz and Razieh, I love you so much. To my brother, Abolfazl, I love you so much. I miss you all. My final wish is that you take care of one another and stay together, no matter what.” Why did he have to die? Why was his life stolen? Why must another mother bury her child? I have no answer for his mother. We have no answer to his brother and sisters. But let’s ask this question to the leaders of the democratic world: Why are you silent? Why don’t you stop legitimizing the regime that is hanging innocent protesters every day? Don’t look away. Don’t leave the people of Iran alone with their executioners. Say his name. Majid Nikandish. And make the world answer his final question: WHY? #MajidNikandish #StopExecutionsInIran

Loudly for those having tantrums about the NHS *finally* obeying the law, some 16 years on, and providing women with necessary, separate, single sex spaces. This is partly why. I dare you to tell us you don't agree it should. I first raised this report by @JoPhoenix1 for @WomensRightsNet in spring 2023 at PMQs. Since then we've had 5 Health Secretaries, a Supreme Court clarification of The Equality Act 2010, and simple EHRC guidance. The NHS delay should shame every senior MP who failed to ensure UK law was acted on. womensrights.network/nhs-dat…

Statement from the European Network of Migrant Women — who represent many women who have fled religiously repressive cultures — about the recent European Parliament resolution on combatting Muslim Brotherhood infiltration in Europe. I recommend you read it, it’s like balm for the soul. All the left-wing organisations and political parties in Brussels voted AGAINST the bill because they didn’t want to be accused of “Islamophobia”. We are so lucky to still have organisations like this that care about the welfare of women, above anything else. Absolute heroines. This is principle, not political expediency. This is courage. Shoutout to @ENoMW

Don't normally do consumer reviews on here but just want to say how brilliant this company is. Ordered sheepskin boots from Jacobs and Dalton at a great price, arrived within two days, top quality and absolutely gorgeous. Also turns out they are made on the old airfield in Yorkshire where my uncle taught me to drive 40 odd years ago. Supporting British farmers and ethical sourcing - seriously what's not to like? jacobsanddalton.com
