🇺🇸 In Virginia, a 64-year-old man was charged after he taped his wife to a chair in the basement so he could watch football upstairs. Terry Ward was arrested last Sunday night in Richmond after officers responded to a domestic call. According to the criminal complaint, his wife said he used tape to restrain her to a chair in the basement. Ward admitted he tied her up and left her there. She had marks and tape residue on both arms and told police she had been restrained for up to 45 minutes. He faces felony abduction and misdemeanor assault on a family member He is due in court on November 10.

According to the arrest report, Lewis made several statements about the race of the responding officers while receiving medical treatment at Jefferson Hospital. Lewis allegedly claimed that the officers had grabbed him because they were white. He reportedly told a Black female officer that if she had responded to his home instead, they would have simply had a conversation. The report further documents additional racially charged statements about white police officers, along with Lewis’s claims that he had a right to defend himself. The statements raise serious questions about whether racial hostility played a role in the deadly shooting. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on October 10, when Officers Seiber and Rodriguez responded to a report of a person with a gun on North 52nd Street in West Philadelphia. Both officers were shot during a struggle on a porch. Seiber, a 40-year-old father of two, later died from his injuries. According to police, Lewis subsequently fired additional shots toward responding officers before SWAT located him hiding in a tree and took him into custody. While the alleged statements suggest race may have been a factor, investigators have not established racial bias as the confirmed motive.
